JIGWREX IS HERE!
Submitted by Kasey L. on Tue, 2006-09-12 00:36.
Time to reach in and spend some $$ boys and girls,
Jigwrex are here.
The first thing you will notice is its paint job; trust me.
Bit pricy... might it still come down a bit over time? ;)
I'll definately recommend it over anything else Shimano has to offer in terms of Jig rods, until the Blue Roses hit the shelves..

Big John.......1 and 2 peice versions depending which model!
Luke.......$369 but cheaper to FWA & FW members
My Jigmaster rod is a bit cheaper and better by far, the Jig Wrex is good for mass production and there's no doubting that at all but my custom made sticks are better hense why I've just bought 2 for my personal use......... ;)
We'll show you the difference next week Luke when the O/H Jigmasters come in mate!

so wheres your review of the
so wheres your review of the rod after testing it out last sunday honsu?
honsu chin
My review is pretty
My review is pretty simple.....average...good bottom basher but too fast action to jig with imo. Its also a 2pc, which Im always wary of when going hard on the drag, hence why I used 30lb on my PE4 rated overhead. The JigWrex is a series of rods.....from medium boat casting to heavy jig. Varies in tapers and actions and very smick paintjob.....
But I still prefer my Oceanside jigmaster, might have to get another soon and offload the JigWrex.

i thought i would add my 2
i thought i would add my 2 cents worth... and a non biased opinion...i have been looking for a rod to put my new torsa 20 on... and looked at all my local options. then honsu and ryan suggested i check out there custom rods. i went to oceanside on the weekend... and spent a hour going through the jigging rods around that price range with gribbo. i must say that whilst the jigwrex look very nice ( very nice colours etc.)... the custom jigmaster rods are much better. this was based on in store loading up of the rods. the jigmaster is able to put much more hurt out, with much less effort on the angler. simple as that. it represents excellent value for money in my book...better rod...CUSTOM HAND MADE ( not some machine somewhere)... quality fittings... and a very neat and tidy finish. i could go on. i look forward to putting it to use this upcoming sambo season for sure... my advice would be to do yourself a favour and check them out, before you part with your hard earned... distance shoud not be a issue when it comes to buying quality gear at the right price, i travelled from brighton near quinns!!.. i am very glad i did!!! and they do look after us with the price too... so its a win win for all..
luke... a unbiased or associated opinion!!!

Hey Ryan/Honsu, what
Hey Ryan/Honsu, what overhead models of the Jigmaster are available? Something similar to the TCurve Jig 200 O/H? They sound awesome, might consider getting one instead of the TCurve.

i would definately steer
i would definately steer away from the t-curve... doesnt even come close to the jigmaster... i have a t-curve 200 spin... with a spheros 14000fa... nice combo... but the difference in rods is quite astounding!!! especially since there is little difference in the price between the two...

FYI, the JigWrex 80lb stick is only available in one model and thats 5ft spin. Very short and bit of a broom stick. The 5'2" 60lb is a bit nicer to use.

"...good bottom basher but
"...good bottom basher but too fast action to jig with imo"
What does 'fast action' mean?
-----------------
Jay Burgess
big john
Rod action
Fast action rods are those that are fairly stiff through the bottom two thirds of the rod, with the top third rapidly forming the working curve when the rod is loaded. Good for crisp lure and bait casting rods.
Slow action (parabolic) rods see the working curve formed right back to the reel seat (and sometimes past). These rods put less hurt on the angler and more hurt on the fish. Not great casting rods but great for jigging with braided lines.
John
PS. Medium is a compromise of both, without doing either as well as the specialised actions (fast/slow).

Hi John, was wondering how
Hi John,
was wondering how would a rod that is easy on angler but at the same time put more hurt on the fish?
Cheers

Thanks a bunch big john, now I finally understand what is meant by 'fast', 'slow' action etc.. you couldn't have explained it any better ;))
That Jigwrex Pic above doesn't really look fast action IMO, or were you just refering to the PE4 Honsu?

Why do Shimano release a rod
Why do Shimano release a rod before there is even information on their website about it? I can't find anything on the Shimano Australia website about the Jigwrex, why is that?

reel to match 5ft10 spin PE3 2pc
hi honsu,
looking to match a reel to this.
is the saltiga blast a good buy?
what size would you recmmend?
or perhaps just a simple freams J 4500 will do?
is 40 pound braid overkill?
will be doing light fishing, for those 3-6kg travalies and snappers
thanks!
jay_burgess
30lb braid is ample for the
30lb braid is ample for the trevally and snapper you're after. Saltiga blast sounds like it would be a good match to the PE3 rod with that line. You could also consider the Twinpower 6000 or maybe the Japanese TP 8000 if you need a little extra line cap.

Yep , up to 89 Sambo's and only had to replace the placcy gimbal with a $12 ali job .
Saltist 40 is still killing them as well ;)
P.S. played with a PE3 rod with a Z4500 on it , was a smooth little number for sure , handled a 250 g jig in 85m of water no worries .
Andrew ( dog soldier) was on board as well .

I went down to oceanside
I went down to oceanside when i purchased my jigging outfit and Ryan and Honsu gave me the run down on how things work in your favor. I think it went something like the more flex and bend that runs right down to the butt on the rod under full load applies more pressure on to the fish as a greater force is needed to swim away. This in turn has less impact on the angler as he needs not use his back and arms as much as with a rod like a short stroker. Less fatuige on the fisherman is the key which haas resulted in more fish being able to land in a session. When i place my jig rod up against my others under load you can see the difference straight away and you acctually hold on for longer! As said above people like honsu, mavrick and the like could possibly let a lot more light in on the subject as ive only landed a handful of fish on jig before. Still learning but starting to love it even more.
Keep it tight, reeeeeeel tight!
MarkT
correct me if i'm wrong but
correct me if i'm wrong but dun think there should be any different in terms of fishes swimming away under stress from a fast or a slow action rod, cause once it locks up (at whatever point) the pressure will be there to regardless of rod action, agreed that a slower action rod might be easier on the angler so maybe a better way of putting it will be since you have the adv from slower action rods maybe then you can have more strength left to fight the fish?
Regards

Thi is were ill pass up my
Thi is were ill pass up my knowledge! Ive got my view but its mine and might not be right so ill leave one of the better guys to answer this because its easy to get burnt if your wrong and dont know what your talking about! Which in this case im not sure. Hopefully Mav can answer alittle better. All i know is that the ones mensioned before helped me out emensly with applying more pressure on the fish and less on me. T-curves and the such dont compare to the jigmaster, rapala and blue rose etc in my point of view but thats only my opinion.
Keep it tight, reeeeeeel tight!

hey mark t, feel them for
hey mark t, feel them for yourself mate, put money on it you would buy one if you felt the difference... quite remarkable... the pressure i can put out with my jigmaster 50-80lb jig stick is insane!!! and i doesnt hurt me in the slightest!!!

Well my shit stick is still a Silstar Crystal blue and I've only had to change the top eye to a beta quality one. On this I have a stella 20 thou with 100lb whiplash. A bit over kill but affective. Maybe it sounds like I need another jig rod a bit more user friendly as I'm an old c#$@ MAXY
honsu chin
HI Mark, long time no
HI Mark, long time no hear... I think the idea is have a medium to slow action rod but not a noodle stick that would bend to bottom with a small fish. Our "semi" custom stick are built on a parabolic action blank where it does bend further down than many rods. The lock up point of such rod is lower down therefore giving more leverage to the angler than the fish.
