What happened to Monday
Submitted by Colin Hay on Wed, 2008-09-24 15:22Checked the BOM site this morning and it is forecasting 26 degrees - so I thought Monday might be a cracking fishing day. Seabreeze is now predicting 30 knott winds. Looks like Sunday will be the go.

parents visiting
Submitted by otoshi on Wed, 2008-09-24 11:32Hello all, badly in need of some pointers from anyone who have been fishing (land base)
south of perth for the past few days. As my parents will be visiting from Singapore for the weekend (26th 27th Sept), i was
thinking of showing them my new found hobby(fishing). but did not want to end the day empty
handed like i normally do. any advice on *location, bait ( squid, prawns and sand worm are what i am using), rigs, time would be most welcome.
thank you

squid jig
Submitted by brenz on Wed, 2008-09-24 09:36went out monday with some japenese people from harimitsu etc in search of some squid. needless to say the japenese were excited to hit the sound only to be greeted by servere cloudiness in the water. the gear brought on the boat was nothing short of phenominal and left me in awe these guys had it all . we ended up with quite a few squid of good size and i ended up learning a new techinque of squiding and also learnt that there is so much more to "egi" than i thaught . after taking them out i have had to come to reality that my yozuri jigs just dont cut it next to the harimitsu jigs getting outfished on average 5 to 1 lol.

Where is the Best Shore Fishing in Australia?
Submitted by Liamo on Tue, 2008-09-23 23:12Hi guys,
I am writing to you from Ireland because after another incredibly crap summer here (~3 days of sunshine - no kidding) I have had enough and I am packing in the job and heading to warmer climes.
I am a fanatical shore angler here in Ireland - when the weather permits - but dwindling fish stocks and huge commercial pressure has left the shore fishing in this part of the world a mere shadow of what it used to be.
So the plan is to find a destination with some awesome shore fishing and build a job and a new life around it afterwards :-) I've been looking at the Exmouth/Ningaloo area on the NW coast but I am wondering if I am missing out on better elsewhere?
Have a look at my website, this is as good as land based sea fishing gets here in Ireland - trust me! I need more and bigger fish - where do I go!?
Cheers,
Liam

Checking in.
Submitted by Bloke on Tue, 2008-09-23 21:10It's been a tough couple of weeks that's forsure, however I'm now back
home with a bourbon and having a surf, finally some normality setting
in again.
Today was awesome at work unwrapping a heap of
new Hobies and getting them organised in my display area, and I'm
excited to say our dealership is now well under way and getting
organised.
See you out there
Al.
What am I doing wrong??
Submitted by tango and cash on Tue, 2008-09-23 17:53Hello, I am by my own admission a very unsuccesful fisherman. I have little knowledge and try to pick things up from this site as I go along.
I recently bought a little tinny and yesterday went out just outside the Marina at Mindarie for a fish after work.
I intended to go for Skippy or Garfish. I used a number 6 hook and a little fluro bead on line with prawns from the river as bait. I also had a burley bucket out and some fish oil.
I was fishing about 20-30 metres away from the outer harbour wall where everyone seemed to be pulling in heaps of good size fish. However, with two rods out I didn't even get a nibble.
I am clearly doing something wrong, any thoughts. I have 15lb line on one rod and 6lb on another. Does heavier line put the fish off?
Please help or I am going to have to take up another hobby as I cannot take much more of the wife's piss taking
I don't have a fish finder but then neither did the guys on the rocks!! I am more than happy to take someone out for a fish if they are willing to show me where I am going wrong.

Favoured wind directions
Submitted by Colin Hay on Tue, 2008-09-23 16:30I was just fiddling with the Seabreeze graph checking out the winds for the weekend and I was wondering what wind directions do people prefer when fishing ofshore in WA?
Someone told me once that mightn't go out if the wind was blowing from a certain direction, even if it wasn't overly strong, as they reckoned the fishing was always poor when those conditions prevailed.
Any thoughts?

Crazy scenes at Hillarys
Submitted by Colin Hay on Sun, 2008-09-21 11:18I dropped down to Hillarys at the crack of dawn yesterday. The weather wasn't great, but it was going to be better than today
As those who ventured near the ocean yesterday know it was a bit windy and there was a fair swell. But that didn't seem to bother a few nutters. This included four young guys in a very small aluminium dinghy which was almost down to the gunnels even before it left the harbour, and three guys on a jet ski, one of whom was about 10 years old. Even the charter boats were getting battered getting out yesterday so I don't know what these guys thought they were up to.
I noticed the volunteer rescue people were warming up their boat expecting some trouble,
All the best, Colin Hay
