Left Hand Overhead's

Avet or Alutecnos... what to get

Just checking out the avet AVETLX63SL I have not heard much about these reels though the speces suit me for jigging & GT fishing the two speed is a bonus when deep too, if this reel was going to be as good as a shimano  I would own one already and not be asking qustions.

Left hand wind seems to be neglected by the big companys.

Is avet a good product if so why is no one selling them in australia?

I hate using right hand wind, I do not want to get used to swaping hands when i fish, the rod stays in my casting hand while I lift and wind, The stupid hand does the winding the strong arm lifts the fish, has anyone thought of this or are me and Steve Starling the only people that think this makes sense?

Been looking at the Avets but not many shops stock many lefties. Its a shame as we have wallets too.
PS: I am right handed too and make do with a penn 321L as my weapon of choice out wide.

Penn 246ld is my current tool, I do not know why these have been discontiued. as they are one step up on the 321,

I found this site that does the AVET I have not bought from the USA before, scary thing credit cards on the net over seas for the first time, has any one done this before?

Was going to get a  585 FUruno sounder over when The US dollar was at 96c chickened out though..

The Avets need to have the drag washers greased, most come dry.  The sealed bearings need to be pried out, greased and refitted.  They then become a superb reel.

Have a look at campbells

The avets do seem to have problems with the bearings, but from what I've heard on alutecnos they are a good reel.

From my limited experience with Avet reels while I was spending most of my time at a tackle shop in malaysia. Avet's are good reels with drags and gears able to handle the big stuff but because the drag and bearings are not sealed they need more work to keep them going perfectly.

Yeh...Avets do seem tough

Yeh...Avets do seem tough and relatively cheap but just abit more maintenance due to the open bearings. Ive got a little SX, first thing Ive done to them is to replace the open bearings with sealed ones and regrease the drag washer. This will cut down maintenance in the long run. I believe the new lot of Avets have sealed bearings now but still require pre-service.

Personally I go check out the Accurates and make the enquiry for left handed models. They are far stronger and tougher reels then Avets.
