i got done again!!!!
Submitted by fisho-ron on Thu, 2011-12-29 17:54well,
took my son troy out with me again today,(i should know better by now) and he kicked my but again.
i got busted off by something big, was calling it for a big dhu until half way up and then gone... i was pissed!!
then me and troy got busted of again by 2 heavy fish while we had a double hook up, lost both of them not far off the bottom.
between us we ended up with,
9 dhu's, 3 over size the largest 86cm, all but 2 released well with no weight.
1 small pinky
2 med size sambo's
1/2 dozen b/ass
lots of swallow tail
1 big nannyguy/red snapper? plus lots of small ones
them bloody sea sweep again( i am a expert at getting them)
and a wrasse for the comp!!
of course the big dhu's went to troy again, with myself not even getting a size one, we only kept the 2 dhuy's, nanny
and the biggest b/ass which i give to my cousun.
all in all was a great day on the water for us again with some good fish boated and one day i will catch a bigger fish than troy...lol
cheers ron

any luck in todays southerly drift??
Submitted by grayzeee on Thu, 2011-12-29 17:25We did it tough today , but i guess it was expected.
Headed out from mindarie early , though problems with the fuses on the sounder held us up for 20 mins.
All the way out to d bank to a certain ledge , only to find someone sat over the exact spot. only boat in sight. Thats the second time thats happened now.
Got straight into a sambo and a 55cm dhu early. both returned.
Things went quiet then , so we headed out deeper to the 90's with the trolling gear out , but found no good looking spots , so headed back inwards.
Checking lots of old waypoints as we zig zagged back homeward.
Threw everything at them today , jigs , plastics , driftbaits , livebaits , bottom bounced even.
picked up a couple of smallish 45cm baldies , 4 or 5 more smallish dhueys but nothing quality. bait won today.
fantastic conditions though , 28 knots on the run in , and it cooled off a bit even.

Todays Fishing
Submitted by Swan River Fisher on Thu, 2011-12-29 15:11Went to GI and 5 fathom bank today, targetting snapper and dhufish but haven't been able to get any due to lack of knowledge and spots. Got a few little skippy and hooked a massive eagle ray which went crazy putting on an awesome areobatic performance. Released well after a good fight.
Interestingly, hooked a little whiting which was about 3m from the boat when it got hammered and proceded to get mauled by a metre long spaniard or small shark. I cannot confirm which one it was but it was big and burnt through my 7kg braid which broke when it hit the motor. Was in about 12m of water on the edge of 5 fathom
Also saw Steve from Fishing WA at the Cockburn Members Ramp launching a 680 Haines Patriot with a big 300hp Yamaha on the back.
Anyone else go out and how'd you go?

Job
Submitted by Nickk on Thu, 2011-12-29 13:19Currently working at Hungry Jack's but looking for a new job, preferably a tackle shop or to do with fishing/boating, but if you know or have a job available send a message my way, im 15, very enthusiastic and a really hard worker, I know quite a bit about fishing and boating but im more than happy to put in time to learn anything i dont know, am also happy to come in and have a talk to the manager whenever possible. I have been looking for a new job for a while now, riding around to shops handing out resumes, applying for all sorts of jobs and i thought putting an ad on here would hopefully help me as a last resort
Thanks, Nick

Sounder pics - an update
Submitted by r.gates on Wed, 2011-12-28 21:58Hi all
Here's a followup from my previous thread regarding the sounder pics I posted, seeking clarification of caves and ledges, etc. Today my daughter and I ventured out to the same site and went for a dive to check out what was down there.
I took a photo of the sounder image before we went over the side, but unfortunately somewhere between me going over the side and collecting the rest of my gear hanging on the lanyard, I've dropped my camera and housing. I had my arm through the strap that's attached to the housing but somehow it's come off my arm. As I wasn't sure whether it would float or sink, my first thought was to look on the bottom, 12m below. The vis was really good but the bottom was rocky and lumpy and covered with weed and we never found it. I went back to the surface for another look, but no luck there....bugger. It was a Sea and Sea 1200HD digital camera and housing.....only had a few photos on it because I download the pics every time I take photos, so I haven't lost the pics, just the camera and housing.
The ground I took the original sounder pics on, consists of deep trenches, high walls and overhanging ledges, with a few full on caves thrown in.
Once I've replaced the camera, I'll get back there and take some more photos.
We only saw a couple of sized crays and a few kackas, but they were hiding way back under the ledges, well out of snare range. Did see a big KG whiting, but he wasn't hanging around.
Hope all those who ventured out today had a better day than me.
regards
rusty...

Yachting Idiots
Submitted by karlos 22 on Tue, 2011-12-27 15:04This morning I was close to cleaned up by an 60-80 metre yacht 13km's north of preston beach about 400 metres offshore, sitting achored in my yak for about an hour or more before a frinking idiot in a bloody big yacht decided to see how close to me he could get to me, lined me up from a mile off missed my rudder by a metre but collected my anchor rope and took me for a ride before it dislodged. I am lucky I am not dead this was definitely deliberate I have a yellow malibu wearing a red life jacket. Some people are just plain stupid............

Rod to match a Saltiga 20.
Submitted by byrnedog on Tue, 2011-12-27 12:16Hi Guys,
I'm chasing some advice on what would be a good match to a Saltiga 20 reel.
I'm wanting to use it mainly for bottom bouncing and jigging. Something mid range, with a bit of bend to it. I'll be using 30 pound braid.
Cheers.
