Amateur mistake what a dumbass!
Submitted by Trousersnake on Tue, 2010-01-05 12:25Finally landed my first fish today a baby salmon. Technically my second fish. Tha first 1 I caught, which was bigger got away!!!!
I made tha amateur mistake of taking tha fish with me to fill tha bucket with water. As soon as that f***** saw ocean he jumped out of my hand. I managed to catch him again with tha bucket only for tha little f***** to jump out of tha bucket. Talk about a learning curve!!! Was still an awesome day. I caught each fish with each of my rods so I managed to bust both cherries in one day!!
Last thing I caught was a blowie and I'm starting to think that it is a sign for tha end of tha day. Once blowies turn up it all seems to go downhill!!!!
Catch ya on tha flip side
Peace

Regular Deckie Wanted
Submitted by Stevef on Tue, 2010-01-05 11:03This will read a bit like a post on a online dating site ........... but here goes.
I am looking for a keen, and experienced, fisherman/person who would be interested in becoming a "regular" on my boat. I have the boat, however my long time fishing mate has left town and I am often left without a crew to fish with. I dont want to sound like a w@anker however I am looking for someone who:
- Lives in the northern suburbs and has own transport - I live in Butler and generally launch from Mindarie or Two Rocks
- Has a mature attitude - Safety first when I fish and if it is rough I dont go out
- Has own gear suitable for general bottom fishing off Perth
- Prepared to pay their way and help with boat cleanup etc - Even if we dont catch fish
If anyone is inetersted, then please PM me and we can maybe catch up for a beer a talk fishing
Cheers Steve

Submitted by JACKO W on Tue, 2010-01-05 10:42Going 35 mile off Mandurah on wednesday. Anyone know anything about the Dhuies and other bottom fish around the 50m mark?

Navman Tracker 5607 - Problems
Submitted by dalaisc on Tue, 2010-01-05 10:21Good Morning Peoples
I have a Navman 5607 that I bought from a fellow forum member and unfortunately the receipt that came with the unit was lost. The problem we are having is that last week the screen just died on us. When the sun shines on the unit you can see that it is recording stuff but it just does not elluminate.
I called Navico but without a receipt they will not speak with me. I just want to get it fixed and was wondering if anyone out there could point me in the right direction.
Thanks
Conrad

Favourite Lures for Exmouth
Submitted by Mossie on Tue, 2010-01-05 00:07Hey Guys,
I am getting all G'd up for the trip to Exmouth at the end of March. I am planning to keep an online diary of the trip which I will keep updated every day on here with pics ect.
I thought I'd post a thread to see what everyone's favourite hard body and soft plastic lures are for fishing Exmouth. Lets say we have two categories...
1. Trolling ( deep divers and shallow and what species you target with these lures)
2. Casting / Jigging Lures (and what species you target with these lures)
Looking forawrd to seeing what everyones choices are.

Nick "everywhere"Hocking
Submitted by Shorty on Mon, 2010-01-04 14:19Last month i see Nick was in the Fishing Western Australia Magazine as always being a major contribertor for a long time with Jacko then Lisa doing T.V work also,,he also did an artilce last month for Western Angler magazine and now he is on the cover of WAFM, he sure gets around.
A quick skim through this months FWA at the local newsagents shows no sign of Nick (only had a quick skim) not sure what the story is but there might be juicy gossip some where, lol
Which brings me to a point that bugs me,,i have always heard if you write for Mag X you can't write for anybody else,,fair enough if you have a regular colonmist gig but you should be able to write for anybody,,don't forget you see Starlo in and on a range of mags,,never restricted to one.
Anyway just thought i would pasS my obervesations on,,maybe big changes have happened at FWA ?

Has anyone else heard this or know any more. Sounds a bit far-fetched but who knows. Do they grow this big?

Sunday Report
Submitted by luke george on Sun, 2010-01-03 21:32We headed out at about 5 this morning on the waters by about 5 30 and greeted by schools and schools of small longtail or bluefin tuna not to sure which but they were everywhere also picked up my first tuna on fly :) so we grabbed a few for bait and headed out to the north barge first drop resulted in a nice sambo of about 10kg. Next drop resulted in my mate getting an absolute horse of a leatherjacket. Then something that put a dampener on the day my practically brand new saltiga Xhfs jig rod snapped 3 eylets from the top. So after that decided to come on closer for a bit of a bottom bash in the 30's. Sounder was looking good and from when the baits hit bottom they were getting smashed resulting in 4 or 5 blackass 2 small pinks 1 small dhuie and plenty of other reef fish and a few unstopables. As the weather was turning sour we started coming back in at about 1 30 and there was still schools of tuna hanging around but we couldnt get a hookup. Went for a quick fish and dive in close to garden and picked up a nice 50cm flathead and a few whiting. Great day in all and a nice sunburn to go with it

Furuno FCV-600L help wanted newbie
Submitted by ledge64 on Sun, 2010-01-03 16:23my recent new boat has a furnuo 600L sounder which I'm having difficulty setting up/reading, it appears to be reading the depth/bottom ok but does not apper to pick up schools/fish, I have adjusted/set bottom lock etc to no avail I know its not showing anything as a huge ray went under the boat and although the fish alarm goes off there is no indication on the screen of the ray also the pic attached displays a lost of rubish and there is only a small distance on sounder from the top to the bottom of the screen, does anyone have this sounder that can shed some light on what I'm doing wrong? I've looked at the demo and this sounder look like it has great capability.....
TIA

predictions for metro pelagics this season
Submitted by grayzeee on Sun, 2010-01-03 15:19just wondering what everyones predictions are for pelagics in metro waters this season.
i am chasing my first YFT and spaniard from perth waters.
noticed while on the boat last trip out , the temp was registering at nearly 23 degrees out in the 30's. hopefully a good sign.
just need to sort out a good spread of lures as will be running 3 rods , and get a couple of teasers to up the chances. can't wait.
plan so far is to troll the south/west side of rotto early morning around the drop offs , keeping an eye on bait balls and birds .
sound about right??

didn't we have a good day today?????
Submitted by fisho-ron on Sun, 2010-01-03 13:35nice hot sunny day, decided to take the kids out from woodys to get some squid and hopefully some KG then end up at canarc for a swim and a couple of beers,,,,,,,sounds great, lets goooo.
2 klms out from woodys i here a strange noise comming from my 200 yammy 2st,,, what the,,,, then she locked up,,,,,,,,,,, she has sized, no warning whatsoever. Yes before anyone ask, my temp/oil alarms do work and the mator was cold. i think it has spun a big end bearing.
thanks for my mate that towed me back in.
all in all an exspensive day, hope its covered under insurance.
p.s
one good point, while at anchor waiting to be rescued we had a fish, 15-20 baby snapper all returned good except for 1 that floated away, swallowed the hook a bit to deep.
cry, cry, sob, sob,,,i am going to get drunk now.

Floating tailess whiting
Submitted by Goodz on Sun, 2010-01-03 10:18So we were out scooping for crabs down in mandurah a couple weeks back and in our travels we came across a large sand whiting, floating along without a tail, but still alive! What the!?!? A quick scan around with the light didn't reveal any large predators so we were pretty clueless as to what could have taken its tail off. Any ideas? I would have thought that if it was a shark or mulloway they wouldn't have left anything to float away alive. Could a crab have chopped its tail off? Maybe it was attacked by the hordes of blowies that were around... poor little guy.
