Did anyone else get into the schools of tuna about 17 mile out from mandurah yesterday?

We trolled through the birds and bagged out with 6 tuna on board for 3 anglers, using skirted lures and the old red and white shallow minnow, in 3 passes.

We came across them on the way out to the 70mt line, think they were blue fin - no stripes, shortish pectorals and no hint of yellow bands when boated. All the same size, around 3 maybe 4 kilo each. (camera had a hissy - apparently didn't like being kept in the cool bag - lens fogged up as soon as it was out of the bag, but a short spell on the dash sorted that)

Had a 3 to 4mt hammerhead have a quick look at the sea anchor, but it didn't hang around very long - not a real concern in the boat we were in 7.5 westerberg walkaround.

i have asked at a few places and been given the blank stare. any body know where if i can find one befor i go back north at the end of the week?

Had first fish since ban other day ,went well except for my mate getting spiked by a scrorpion fish ,i believe the best thing in this case is hot water unfortunately none on board  that day but is there anything else to help with pain for these & gurnards 

just wondering any body know the limit and size for sharks any reely preferbly black tips

im thinking of fishing at the busso jetty in a few days does anybody know whats out there at the moment?

I have a 11 1/2 Ft dingy and I have just returned home from a Work/Christmas trip from Mandurah and Esperance with the family.

While I was in Mandurah I had a fish in the Peel Inlet where we only caught Blowies (hundreds of them). We then venture to Esperance where we fished the Bay 3 times with limited success with only catching some rock cod, a under size sweep and a couple under size herring for the whole time there.

 We have 2 small children of 4 and 6 and they have run out of patience of boring fishing and no longer want to go out in the boat. I am planing on going for a fishing trip to Hamelin Bay in a week or so and will try our luck in the bay.

I would like to know what I could catch and what is the best bait to use? As we are only in the tinny I will not be venturing out very far so is there any good spots to be? I don't care if we are catching under size fish and throwing back but would love to have some catching fun and not just fishing for the kids.

I have also got a timber Cray pot(more for the big kid). Is it worth wile taking it out or have the Crays gone out already? I don't want a huge feed or go stupid but catch 1-2 for a feed for us. I have been told to use tin cat food for bait. Does this work or have I been given a bum steer?

I have spent all my time in the boat running up the Blackwood and Donnelly rivers so ocean fishing is new to me( apart from 3 trips on the bay of Isles). I have all the relevant lic, tickets, flares etc. When does Hamelin bay get nasty? I don't venture out in more than 15knot/1.5m swell but I know it can change really quickly around that area.

Went fishing on the 3 mile yesterday and made up a xmas burly comprising of cray, prawn and oyster shells, crabs sticks, mules and squid we caught yellowtail kingfish, PJ's, reef fish and skippy and were broke off several time without seeing any colour, returned all fish expect the skippy caught this red fish anyone know what it is? sorry about quality of pic roll on next xmas....

After spending every spare moment in recent weeks going out fishing, the wife has put her foot down and there is a 'general fishing ban' on in our house as she is sick of me leaving her on her own. As she is a few months pregnant now - she is reluctant to come out with me and preferring the comfort of home to a tent on a windswept beach.

We are going overseas in less than two weeks - so unlikely I will now get an opportunity to fish until we get back and I will no doubt make up for it by buggering off up north somewhere for a couple of nights!

Anyone else have a husband / wife who have had enough of fishing? Really keen to hear you best (or worst) excuses to go fishing and what the consequences were when you got home! haha!

must be heaps of sharks around port kennedy at the moment. me and a mate hooked about 10 black tips tonight in just over 3 hours. managed to land 2 10 kilo ones and lost 4 or 5 at the shore coz we were fishing with too light leader. my mate even got one to the shore on his 2 pound gear (about 5 kilo). couldnt believe how many there was!

i had trouble ataching a picture to this forum so i put one up on the normal spot

Went fishing with dad and mate today first stop, first bait, first drop and first fish this is now my new PB Dhuie. It weighed 9.75kg on my 5-10kg rod. Got our bag limit of Dhuies and had a good day

got back from a fish today had a good day got fish one thing spoilt it some ####head thinks that setting a drift 3/4 boat lengths in front of myself when i am on the pick is a fair thing to do then pings a very small lump we where on after an exchange of words {thats how close this kn#b was}he then lets me know its not my ocean and then does a second drift from same spot i moved and before the motor wash had gone d###heads on it I told him to look for his boat rego on here so if u read this and think i have forgotten u here is the first two letters AU!!! so think before u do it agian sh##head there is such a thing as fair or reasonable distance to someone fishing!!!

Looking to purchase a heavy duty baitcaster that will run PE3. Will be used for cast and retrieve lure fishing, trolling and live baiting.

Currently thinking about a TD Pluton 200H or a Millionaire Blue Backer 300.

Anyone gots any thoughts on these or another reel that might fit the bill?

Anyone know if there are any crabs at claremont jetty?
Where's a good spot to drop some nets land based at the moment?
Can you drop nets in the hillaries marina?
Any help would be great fellas - I'm dying for a feed!

hey everyone i was wondering if any of youse have fished the straggler rocks area and what have you caught, thinking of going there and west, which is the best way to get to the west side without driving around carnac and out

could anyone tell me what size reef anchor  recomend for a 7.1 mtr <23ft>  and how long should chain be thx ;->

Went scooping for crabs down Mandurah way last week.  Caught heaps, but they were all about 5mm too small.  I ended up bring home two that were legal size - Just enough for a crab sandwich.

Is anybody else finding legal size crabs around, or is it still a bit early

well, got up this morning ,with the best of intentions , after over a 2 month dry spell with no time out on boat.

arrived at mindarie boat ramp at 4 30 am and launched.

got outside and thought it was a bit choppy , but continued on.

out into the 30's and sounded up something interesting , but wind now around 25 knots and a hell of a sea. 

made it impossible to hold boat on mark. made 2 or three drops and just no point.

turned for home and motored back at 6 or 7 knots into the worst conditions i've yet been out in. many green ones over the bow . back inside the marina at 7. 

what a nightmare.

(didn't stop a couple of brave (mad) lads in a 4.2 dory heading out  )

Second dolphin calf for Monkey Mia in as many weeks

Khamun was named by students from Shark Bay Primary School and is the first offspring of Kiya, one of the area’s regular visitors.

Department of Environment and Conservation Shark Bay district manager Brett Fitzgerald said Khamun was chosen because of its link to the name Kiya.

“Egyptian history experts list Kiya as possibly the mother of the Pharaoh Tutankhamun and Khamun is an interpretation of the name Tutankhamun,” he said.

Monkey Mia’s newest dolphin brings the number of regular dolphins that visit Monkey Mia to 15 - the largest total number of dolphins recorded at the beach since changes to the dolphin management regime in 1995.

Mr Fitzgerald said Kiya’s mother, Puck, recently gave birth to Samu, who was born on December 11 and was named in honour of Dr Amy Samuels, a long-time researcher at Monkey Mia.

“Kiya is the second of Puck’s calves that has reached adulthood and produced an offspring,” he said.

“Both mother and calf continue to do well and are being managed in line with established protocols designed to protect the welfare of the dolphins as they become used to visitors being near the new calf.

“These protocols have been implemented since the birth of Samu and will continue until both calves and mothers are settled over the next three to four weeks.

“Although Kiya visits the beach regularly with the feeding dolphins, she is not part of the feeding program. However the same protocols will apply while she is close to shore.”

Puck and Samu are also doing well and DEC staff have reported that Samu is well developed for its age.

The sex of dolphins is often not able to be determined until they reach about six months of age.

DEC staff will ensure that visitors to the area can interact with the dolphin calves while still protecting their welfare.

”Every measure is being taken to give the new calves the greatest chance of survival, as there is a high mortality rate for dolphins born in the wild,” Mr Fitzgerald said.

The new Coalmine Beach Boat Ramp which was supposed to be open for the Christmas holidays seems to be completed but is awaiting engineer's assessment and report before it can have certification.

DEC say it shouldn't be long and will be worth the wait.

I have a quick ?? for any of the tackle rats on here - how the hell do i get into the back half of a stella 20,000fa drag. I can take the clicker assembly off, but can not work out how to remove the black ring. Any help would be great - copped a hammering sambo jigging the other day and realized it has never been touched in three years so figured it was time for some love but to no avail yet. Hoping Ryan, Honsu or someone else can give me a pointer?

have any of u people been catching some fish lately at hillarys marina (Northerb Wall?) might go there for a whole day on monday can anyone tell me wat to expect (not going for any rays be the way; might do it maybe) so i can get a wiff on how to prepare my gear? (The lighthouse still have those baby pinkies?).

Also anybody been catching some decent fish around Mullaloo point (landbased) and Ocean reef harbour?

New to boating and divers. 

I am a new boat owner having taken my boat out 3 times since I Have had it so most of what I do/come across is new.  Left out of hilaries yesterday and head up north to then go out deep (having someone show me the reef gap before I start using it) and just north of little island as you get out over the reef line, there were 2 boats.  1 Boat had its dive flag up the other had no flags up and they were about 200-300 metres apart.  The boat with no flags obvioulsy had divers below either that or they realised they had left something back in the car and swam back to shore to get it as there was no one on the boat. 

As I kept about 100 metres from either boat I still slowed down due to this is new thing and lo and behold a diver scares the crap out of me by surfacing about 20 metres away from me, much further than 50 metres from either boat.  At first I thought I was reading my gps wrong and I was about to run aground on reef.  thought it was a reef break but no further inspection revealed the goggles etc etc.  Now is this a normal occurrence that divers stray and surface more than 50 metres from their boats and some don't put up their flags??

Fishing was fishing, caught 3 whiting and hooked a shark that busted me off and then proceeded to launch itself about 2 metres in the air 20m from the boat, did this about 7 times quite spectacular actually.

Anyone know of a decent brand of Trim Tabs to fit to a 10 metre Vessel in Perth?   Cheers  nev
