Live baiting

G'day guys

Just flicking around on the net and came across this beauty. Would save a lot of messing around with rigging needles and waxed thread. Super quick as well to get the livey back in the water.

Trailer spreads the sustainable fishing message

Something to look forward to Pilbara boys

During a visit to the Pilbara region this week, Fisheries Minister Jon Ford said local fisheries volunteers were doing outstanding work in spreading the ‘fish for the future’ message with the help of a new community education trailer.
Mr Ford said the recent inland tour to Pannawonica, Paraburdoo and Tom Price, where fisheries volunteers visited schools and shopping centres, was a good example of how the trailer could be used on an ongoing basis.
“The volunteers and fisheries staff who took part in the tour, said the trailer attracted a lot of interest from people keen to learn more about fishing in a sustainable way,” he said.
“Thanks to Rio Tinto, who sponsored the purchase of the trailer, as well as the Pilbara Regional Recreational Fishing Advisory Committee which helped with the purchase of electronic equipment, this has proved to be a highly successful community initiative.
“The trailer has display technology to show people important messages about fishing in a responsible way, and understanding the importance of the marine environment both now and for the future.”
Next on the program for the Pilbara fisheries volunteers is to take the new trailer to the popular festivals that are coming up across the region in July and August.
The custom-built off-road trailer will be displayed at the Spinifex festival in Port Hedland on July 26, the FeNaCl festival in Karratha on August 2 and 3, and at the Nameless Festival in Tom Price on August 8.
The Minister said the festivals would give the volunteers an excellent opportunity to continue their valuable work of informing people about sustainable fishing practices.
“In order to continue to enjoy the lifestyle, people have come to expect while they are out fishing in Pilbara waters, we also have to let people know that we should fish for the future so generations to come can also enjoy the experience,” he said.
“The various fishing clinics and presentations conducted by the fisheries volunteers help to get that message across.”
The Minister said the Government was investing in quality research to help monitor fish stocks across WA and guide decision-making that would balance the social value of recreational fishing with the need to ensure the State’s fish stocks were managed sustainably.

Slammers ??

The boys in "Fishing Australia" were pulling in plenty of decent snapper on "Slammers" that were bright coloured softies that were said to be made from reconstituted fish if I was hearing right!!
Have any of you fellas used them or know anything about them? They look very promising.

It's started

Boat sales are slow enough already in the south west that a couple of dealers have added caravans to the inventory - nice work Jon.

Strange thing I saw while driving to work.

Gday guys,

I was driving to work last week and saw something really strange. I was on Nicholson Road, just heading towards Albany Highway, theres a bridge that goes over the top of the Canning River which wines all the way up to who knows where. There were 2 boats sitting in the river just there and pulling out something that looks like potato sacks which had red content seeping through it.

Looks like they were fishing for river sharks but who knows. Just plain wierd I think, but I did see some kid bringing in a small Bream around the Kent Street Wier area too on the same day which had me thinking.

Cheers,

Darda.H

Twisted leader connection

Howdy all

Spent some time today making up some twisted leaders for GT fishing. A after some advice from some of the GT guru's on twisted leader connection method to swivel / split ring at popper end. I used a crimp as shown in attached picture. I know you can whip the end too but does anyone else have any advice /method of attaching the swivel.
Also is this one of the more common ways

Cheers

New Trailer ?

I'm thinking about buying or getting a new trailer built for my boat, I
reckon the one under it is past restoration and think it would probably
end up costing as much as a replacement.

Should I go for a Tandem trailer?

What sort of money would I be looking at for a tandem with electric winch?

Anyone know who the best people are to deal with? preferaby SOR but if cost and quality is worth it I dont mind travelling.

It will be used for a 20ft Star boat and I'm wondering if it will need
to have trailer brakes, I tow it with a Nissan Pathfinder.

All info/advise will be much appreciated.

Cheers, Allan

Legal # of hooks

G'day...

Quick question for ya's...

What's the maximum legal number of hooks you are allowed to fish with on one line?

How are snelled/ganged/trebles viewed in light of the rules (are two snelled hooks on one dropper loop classified as two hooks or just the one?)?

Might be a silly question... but I'm currently knocking up some traces (swells a wee to big for me)... and I'm snelling two hooks on one dropper; two droppers per rig... and in the back of my mind I'm thinking 3 is the legal max. # of hooks allowed on one rig... so am I over?

cheers,
damo
