Cats
Submitted by Leemo on Sat, 2008-05-31 09:12it has bothered me for a wile now and it finally got to me yesterday wile i was out fishing. CATS.
the amount of em at hillaries is mindblowing. this girl was feeding em mulies and there would of been no less than 15 cats at a time. it really bugs me coz every time you pull up a fish, the cats try at attack it. have you guys experienced this before? the council should do something about it. ;) if ya get my drift

Newbie
Submitted by fisherking on Thu, 2008-05-29 20:20Hi all,
I'm a real newb!! I'm kinda new to Australia (12mths in), new boat owner (2nd hand 17.5ft),new to ocean fishing & I need all the help & advice I can get.
I'm almost 40yrs old & have fished since I was 4yrs old. The difference is I'm used to fishing in fresh water on really fine lines & small hooks. Over here it's all so different!!
The rods are upside down & the reels are huge, the hooks are like dangerous weapons. My boat is the most expensive piece of tackle I've ever bought & it was cheap. The wife wasn't too impressed though.
I love all kinds of fishing & I really enjoy boating, it's all about being there. Any fish is an absolute bonus (except blowies).
One day I feel sure I'm gonna catch one of them big snapper or duhies, I'm not sure how or where, but I know I'm gonna catch one

Bang On Batter
Submitted by fab on Wed, 2008-05-28 22:22I must share this batter recipe with you guys, (saw it in a fishing mag), its bang on!!
Did it last night, with a few herring fillets.
Half cup self raising flour, and half a cup corn flour.
Put in a bowl, and add soda water slowly as you stir,(ignore any little lumps), untill you have reached a nice batter consistency.
Coat fillet in a little cornflour before putting in batter.
Put in pan with good amount of oil, and fry.
Drain off excess oil before serving.
Mate, very nice!!!
Will turn you into a pro over night.
Might even pick you up some 'brownie points' with the missus.
Enjoy!!

Blowies
Submitted by Dreamweaver on Wed, 2008-05-28 07:40Scott Bateman posted:
Speaking of Blowies....
I have recently heard that blowies use to be fed on regularly by tuna, an old guy i met told me that use to enter the peel estuary and wipe them out. Anyone else heard of this as I may be doing some studies on this later.
Scott, hope you don't mind, but I posted this seperately out of Colin Hayes's thread as I think you'll get more people to see it and therefore hopefully respond.
My experience with blowies:
Many years ago, when skin diving around Point Peron, I cam across a very large school of semi mature blowies. Nothing strange there. However, without exception, every single one of them had no tail! Otherwise, they were quite happy swimming around doing what they do - albeit swimming very slowly. In the absence, therefore, of any proof to the contrary, I certainly subscribe to the theory that some palegic species attacked them.

CALM Frustrations
Submitted by Scott Bateman on Tue, 2008-05-27 20:36Hey Guys,
Just thought I'd let you all know to make sure you check CALM's website before travelling to your destination and/or ringing CALM before you go as I have just had 4 mates come back from Peron Peninsula in Shark Bay only to find CALM had blocked all access to the Peron Peninsula. Unfortunaley my mates didn't take the one piece of copper log with a road closed sign to seriously and entered the park only to be evicted a day later.
The question I have was CALM did not publish this on there website and no notice was put on the entry of the National Park were you pay fees to camp. CALM also told my mates that it was unsafe due to the amount of water they had on the Salt Lakes and it was unsafe to enter but yet they entered to evict them aswell as stating that local fisherman were still allowed to enter the area.
My mates also recieved a $100.00 fine in the mail today for going through the road closed sign but were not told of the fine when they were asked to leave.
Has anyone here had any similar incidents with CALM that they wish to share as my mates are thinking of going to Today Tonight....

North Mole help
Submitted by Colin Hay on Tue, 2008-05-27 20:27I am planning a North Moleathon on Thursday and probably Friday. I haven't fished there for awhile and not that often. I am just wondering if the blowies are bad on the side where the canteen is?
Seabreeze is suggesting south westers will be blowing Thursday and an east north easterly breeze on Friday. Which part of the mole would you fish in those wind conditions.
Many thanks, Colin Hay

Stolen Gear: Perth 26/5
Submitted by till on Tue, 2008-05-27 11:04
The following was stolen from my house yesterday afternoon;
Nitro Innovator Surf Assassin 12'
Shimano Stradic 6000FI
Id brought it back from the North Mole yesterday, and washed it. It was in my (walled off) front yard and not visible from the street. Its spooled with a 25lb fluorocarbon leader, uniknotted to 5-10m of yozuri hybrid 20lb, then albright to Stren Microfuse in glacier blue, 20lb. Pretty sure there is still that bit of protective clear plastic on the handle still, it goes on the last bearing, so you don't scratch anything with it. Anyone follow that?
Reward offered, PM for my mobile, and just call me if you see it in a cashie or at the mole or whatever.
