Fins
Submitted by DieHard on Sat, 2010-02-13 19:34Hello
I was wondering if anybody could tell me some good quility freedive fins.
I am on a tight budget and my size is around 40-41.
I have just felt that i am really enjoying the 'FreeDiving' with my standard snorkelling fins, i can reach about 8m so far and stay there for about 10 secs
it isnt to good but for me its great saying that i have just started properly 1.5 months ago.
Thanks.

help - fishing in bunbury
Submitted by dannyg on Sat, 2010-02-13 14:17hi there,
I am going to bunbury on the weekend of the 27/28/29th (the Mrs has a conference to go to there) and I am going to be on my own for most of the time. I am taking down the 12ft tinnie and was wondering if anyone knew of any places to go fishing. I am not looking to catch big things - mainly fish for a feed ie whiting, herring, skippy, tailor, bream
any help would be greatly appreciated as I have never fished there.
Thanks
Dan

● An AR - C spool: An AR - C spool is the epoch-making spool
shape that overturned common sense of conventional spool shape.
If conventional spool shape pursued Driving distance,
it was done when "order taper shape" attached great importance
to a trouble reply well if "a reverse taper" was good.
It is a newly-designed "AR - C spool" that was born to achieve
an important purpose in these two casting at the same time.
AR - C spool ring before spool, special form is, and release of
a line is fixed in the best state in the cast by this effect.
I achieve a trouble reply without sacrificing
Driving distance by this "line rectification effect".
I confirm shape of a spool ring by a casting test of tens of
thousands of times, and it is it in the shape that realized that
I reduce reducing resistance of line release in casting and a line trouble ideally."

How do you handle your catch???
Submitted by wazzbat on Sat, 2010-02-13 08:15Just wanted to know how everyone handles the fish they catch. I'm talking about the ones you are taking home with you. Want to know if you bleed them, fillet them, ice them on the boat/shore etc etc. And then how you sort them out when you get home ie fillet, skin, freeze etc?
Thought it would be interesting to see how different fishers sort there catch???

Toothfish Reef
Submitted by Toothfish on Thu, 2010-02-11 12:10It appears word is out about "Toothfish Reef". I thought I could rely on the discretion of fellow forumites but I'm not so sure that is the case.
I first became suspicious this morning when I went shopping with the Missus. It wasn't the four cars with dark window tinting that followed us as soon as we left the driveway. It wasn't even when the eyes on the mannequin dressed as a fisherman outside Whiteys Tackle Shop followed us as we walked past. It wasnt the smell or the checkered flannel shirts of the shelf stackers when we were in Coles, it was when I looked up and saw all those shelf stackers wearing FishWrecked beanies pulled down over their faces with eye holes cut out. That's when I knew that somone had blabbed about my secret reef.
I said to the Missus "ruuun" and we scarpered out the fire exit to the car. "I'll drive" cos I knew that Evasive Driving Course I did to learn how to get away from the Mother Inlaw would come in handy. I told the Missus to wind down the back windows and get ready with the cans of baked beans.
I headed straight down to Bunnings and was making a mental list of all the things we may need. Marine ply to strengthen the fore deck. Polypipe, nope metal tube for the potato gun and marine camoflage paint, paint brushes, scaff board for the boarding plank and so on. Then off to spotlight so the Missus can get some black cloth to make the ships new flag, you know the one I mean, yer the Jolly Roger.
To all those hopefuls who think they can follow me and me mate to Toothfish Reef yas betta think again cos ya average Navy tanker doesnt carry enough fuel to make it there so you have got Buckleys in ya fishin boat. Follow us at your own peril. We's knows all the Indian Ocean hidouts and we never take a direct path there.
A direct hit with a Delaware potato through ya windcreen is ya warning shot cos we don't do that across ya bows crap. The next shot is a 16 oz snapper lead at your waterline and if doesn't sink ya then we'll finish yas off with the largest release weight on board.
So as not to leave any traces of ya scurvy bones we'll burley up with Whitey's Californian Squid and you'll be eaten alive by the biggest Dhuie you've ever seen. Pity ya won't get to tell anyone about it or Toothfish Reef.

Jumping Fish in the Canning?
Submitted by Ubermensch on Thu, 2010-02-11 11:48I was out fishing in the Canning river last night for bream, around the Shelley area. And every now and then there was a fish that was full-on throwing itself out of the water. There were probably a good 15-20 m of shore at the closest and it looked like it was jumping 2 or 3 m across the water at a time! And not just one jump either, sometimes it jumped 5 or 6 times in a row, one after the other. Unlike the small baitfish that are around up that way, that can make small splashes and jump a small distance, this fish was a decent size, hard to say exactly because it was a long way away, probably around ~15 or 20 cm, and quite a slim fish (Not deep in the body like a bream). I only ever say one at a time, but i assume that there was probably a school of them?
I was wondering if anyone had seen similar things in the river? Or knows what sort of fish it was and why it would do that?

Boat/Bag Limits and Releasing Fish
Submitted by West Coast on Thu, 2010-02-11 10:18I read with interest Toothfish’s story on his big day out, and congrats on catching a couple of ripper dhuies. People fish their whole life without catching a 15kg dhue so well done.
But the story does bring up an interesting topic and that is the release of a sized fish so that you can keep on fishing. If I was to be completely honest, and fearing the wrath of fellow Fishwrecked members, that is a blatant form of high grading, and I cannot believe no-one has mentioned the fact.
All fish suffer from some degree by being bought up from the bottom, especially when you are in 40m of water. Add this to the trouble you had with the net, the excitement you had with the big dhuie and I bet the fish wasn’t in the best condition when you decided to released it. And looking at the photo of the big dhuie, clearly barotrauma is an issue.
I have seen enough dhuies come up from the depth and no matter how careful you bring them up sometimes they aren’t in the best of shape. And even if they look in good shape chances are they are hurting. I think there would be a high mortality rate, even if a release weight is used.
There are strict bag and boat limits in place so perhaps it has lead to people releasing smaller fish in the hope of catching a bigger one or to enable them to keep on fishing, but it is a practice that should not be encouraged.
Anyway I have said my bit. I hope I have not offended anyone, particularly you Toothfish.

Battery Flat
Submitted by Shane O on Wed, 2010-02-10 11:35My battery is completly flat, all the leads that go to the battery were disconnected. i am positve i have connected all the leads to - + ect. I gave it a jump start with a portabnle power pack, had the lid off the motor. connected one lead to the motor and other to the battery.
when i tried to start the engine, it sounded like it wanted to start. But then there was a little bit of smoke coming from somewhere on top of the engine, not sure if it was some oil or part of the motor?

beach launch cape range np exmouth
Submitted by Anytime Brad on Tue, 2010-02-09 23:20I am looking for info on beach launching in the cape range national park Exmouth. I will be up there for a couple of weeks camping in the NP and a mate is thinking of towing my boat up there to meet us. I am doing a trip up to the Kimberley area and as its not a fishing trip as such I am taking my camping trailer. We will be hopefully camping at Osprey Bay which is down the southern end. I have a 4.85 trailcraft and would like to beach launch it and then more it off the beach. I think from memory I have seen boats launched at pilgramana (spelling) which isnt too far north from Osprey.
Any info on this will be greatly appreciated.

Turtle- Lancelin
Submitted by Nauti Buoy on Tue, 2010-02-09 20:39I was out fishing on Sunday from Lano- was about 15mile out when a turtle appeared on the surface near us. I have not seen or heard of turtles being that far south. At least i haven't seen any.
Another note- We were drifting about 4 mile out from town, I hooked up to something sizeable that spooled my TLD25 loaded with 50lb braid on a fully locked drag within a minute. Must have been a very big shark? I had approx 500yards on the spool!
