Exmouth fishing
Submitted by Irish Broome on Tue, 2010-02-09 12:44G'day, new to forum.
Just wondering if anyone can give me some info on what the fishing is like in exmouth in April? Info on Wind, swell, best fun parts to fish for the kids for a few good photo shots. First trip up there with the 2 young kiddies. Was told off the lighthouse was one of the better spots?
Taking little 5.3bar crusher, would love to know any local info.
Happy days,
Irish

Cray Pots With No Floats
Submitted by wazzbat on Tue, 2010-02-09 05:32Was just wondering what you should do if you happen to stumble across a long rope with no float on it? We were out on the weekend and near some other pots, we found 3 different ropes floating in the water which were obviously tied to cray pots (I think). We weren't sure wether to cut them back, pull them up or what? We didn't have anything to use as floats, otherwise we would have tied them to the ropes. Hopefully no one else gets caught in them. It was low tide as well. I was thinking maybe the pots got stuck so the owners just cut there floats off and left them or maybe another boat had previously chopped them up???

Witch Doctors
Submitted by Mossie on Mon, 2010-02-08 23:34Hey Guys, Planning on taking a Witch Doctor for when we are trolling for the macks / sails and alike up in Exy in april. Anyone used one before and can recommend the setup to rig it to the boat. I hear you need to tie them fairly secure as the fish can sometimes have a go at them.
Thanks

New Chick On The Dock!
Submitted by Helen on Mon, 2010-02-08 21:34Hi Everyone,I am new to the forum and want to learn to fish. I went to Coral Bay last year and went deep sea fishing and have decided I would like to take up fishing as a hobby. I went and bought a rod the other day and went out on Saturday but failed miserably, so I was wondering if anyone knew of any beginners fishing groups or lessons that I can go to that will teach me everything I need to know.Cheers

Peaceful bay
Submitted by Bodie on Mon, 2010-02-08 10:35Hello All,
As stated in a post a couple weeks ago, me and the missus are going to head down to peaceful bay this weekend for 3 or 4 days.
Plannign on trying to get a feed of fish each night, only going down very light and going to camp at the caravan park down that way.
anyone able to provide a any info on fishing locations around the area?
Wouldnt mind finding a few herring, KG's or flatties if they are about. The missus wants to have a crack at some light gear fishing, and hoping to be able to keep her occuppied long enough for me to get into some fish too :)
May pop out a big line to see if any salmon are lurking about.
Thanks guys.

What a skipper
Submitted by GrahamM on Mon, 2010-02-08 07:12Simo_ took me out in his boat yesterday for a fish . The conditions were nowhere as good as we thought they would be to get out wide so we settled for a fish in the 35m range. He drove me around in his boat till we got some fish. i got a 48cm dhuie which came up green from about 35m and seemed to go back well. Then he put me on to a keeper a big bigger Dhuie, not sure of the weight as the scales didnt work. I did get a couple of pics but cant load them from my Shitty computer somewhere around the 5kg mark great eating size. I even got a couple of crappy fish . The whole time Simo drove me around, sat and fished next to me chatted and kept me company and didnt catch a thing as to not outdo me. what a Guy. Cheers Simo for a great day out.

Stingray gets even
Submitted by bod on Sun, 2010-02-07 18:42
After a Kiwi woman chopped up a stingray to use as fishing bait, the dead animal struck back by injecting her with burning venom and leaving a barb deep in her flesh.
The woman, who did not want to be named, caught a couple of rays, removed their tails and left the barbs on the seat of her boat.
But as she pulled up crayfish pots and fishing nets off the North Island's east coast, one of the barbs jabbed her upper thigh.
"It's like a bee sting, like a burning sensation that just kept going. I tried to rip it out and I couldn't. I was hanging on, I couldn't sit down."
"It wasn't the one that got away, it was the one that bit me back."
The woman was airlifted to hospital where the stinger was removed.
Australian venom expert Ken Winkle said it was a freak accident he had never come across before, but it was not entirely surprising.
"This is a general phenomenon that a lot of venoms are relatively stable," Dr Winkle, director of the Australian Venom Research Unit at Melbourne University, told AAP.
"It's not too surprising that a stingray barb left 24 hours is still capable of injecting active, nasty venom.

todays effort
Submitted by lurcha on Sat, 2010-02-06 20:28Went out wide of Rotto today, stopped for a jig at a couple of sambo spots on the way out and although the sounder showed lots of fish they were hard to tempt. We managed 4 fish on the way out and 5 on the way back in, ranging from 8-15kg. not horses but fun. We hit the PGFC fad with the fly but had no luck, havent really targeted dollies before so could have just been us! did a bit of scouting in 250-300m but didnt really come across any worthy ground to drop so had a jig at the Derwent wreck and managed a small sambo. To cap it off I suggested a troll along west end on the way in to try for some mackies and my mate caught a 16kg yellow tail king, was a good fight in close and rounded off the day nicely. Will get some pics up soon.

Earth Worms?
Submitted by Redfin 4 Life on Sat, 2010-02-06 19:33Hey guys, i was just wondering if anybody knows what sort of places to find earth worms in summer when the soil is mostly dry and stuff. I assume turning over dirt near rivers/creeks would be a good start.
Any i was also wondering if anyone knew if there was any way that you could breed earth worms to save having to go searching for them before going out chasing redfin or cobbler... i'm just not sure how i could breed earth worms around my home because i dont know what sort of stuff to give them to keep them from starving...i would think that you could get a fairly large container fill it with soil and keep the soil damp and put in some old bits of rotting wood for them to eat and stuff but yea. We have compost worms but they arent guite desighned for fishing because they arent guite as big as easrth worms therefore they dont go on the hook as well and the earth worms seem to be better for live bait thats why i want them so if anyone can help me get some ideas of either where to find them in summer or how to breed them at home iot would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Redfin 4 Life.
