10,000 is a good milestone but we can do more.

This will get recognised, but opponents can easily point out "750,000 rec fishers and only 10,000 signed"?

Interesting stats-The only E-petition ever with more signatures (active still or closed) is the Greyhound racing one with 12000, this has been up for about 10 times as long

  • get your families to sign, they are also affected even if just by eating your fish, or your mental health. Just that alone across the board could potentially double numbers.
  • Networks and friends outside the West Coast region, share it. They are also affected, by the spill over fishing pressure and bag limit reductions proposed for South Coast and up north.
Make it easy for them, send the link, tell them how important and that they will need to enter their address etc

I have approached Broome Fishing Club and posted up on Broome Noticeboard, which has got a little bit of interest, but if you have personal contacts up there, let them know about the issue and ask them to sign.

If apathy if rife inside the West Coast Region its not hard to picture responses South and North of the region, remind them of the cuts they are proposed to get

Sadly McGowans message "in a couple of years there'll be no fish left" is the only one many people heard which makes it sound as though we want to rape it bare.

Repeatedly I'm having to paste up the same info from DPIRD about stocks, and I've put it here below in case anyone needs to save the images and links for use.

in addition, keep writing to you local MP , Ministers, Premier etc

even if you have sent them soemthing already, have to keep pressure on, keep sending them info, they are banking on this going away

Ive just sent the Premier another one

Survey - 640 responses

Petition - over 10,000

the People are clearly having their say and you need to listen

In addition, send complanits to DPIRD about the election of 2 options and lack of transparaency around the survey

I wonder how many people have sent them something as they replied to my on line complaint within a few days which suggests they dont have many

PS - spoke to the guy you put me onto the other day , theres some good plans going on in the background with business

Response from DPIRD

I have also received a response from after lodging a complaint on their feedback page. They didn't really answer any of my questions, but at least it was a personalised response. Not sure how much impact it would have, but I suggest people also send emails to

I have been into a couple of tackle shops over the past week or so, not ONE of them had any notice or info regarding this proposal in sight.

Surely you would think that it would be intheir interest to display or have somewhere they a person could sign or read what is happening to the fishery.

I went into Tackleworld Miami

Thu, 2022-09-08 12:09

I went into Tackleworld Miami yesterday and they had a register you could sign onto to recieve information to keep up to date with what is going on and also had a tablet (ipad) set up that was linked strait to the e-petition.

On a side note: Went in there to buy some hooks for this Saturday and plan to have a fish with my daughter. Now, I am fairly certain her fishing licence has expired so her/dad will need to spend $40.00 for her to fish this weekend which will be the last time she fishes before the "normal" October demersal ban. Should the ban be extended, the value of the $40.00 licence will diminish rather rapidly. What a pain in the arse!

And yes, I have signed the petition and sent the link to countless others also.

And thanks Rob H for all your efforts on behalf of us.

Thanks Rob. This gave me a reason to write back to my local member with the below:

I just wanted to provide you with an update in that an e-petition was created a week ago and has already garnered over 10,000 signatures. The only other petition with more signatures is to ban greyhound racing however this petition has been online for 6 months. In stark contrast and to use another analogy, the Fisheries survey asking rec fishers with a sore foot if they want their healthy leg amputated at the hip or at the knee has only garnered 640 responses.

I have viewed news interviews with the Fisheries Minister and the Premier. Standing out is the fact that Mark McGowan on camera said that if the new rules didn’t come into place then there’d be no fish left in 5 years. No fish left!! Is he completely uninformed on the matter or lying to create the usual scaremongering and divisions within the community that we’ve all come to know him for? Either way it’s scary that decisions are being made in the face of the science and even the WA Fisheries own website states that demersal stocks are on the road to recovery.

FYI

Thu, 2022-09-08 14:02

FYI-there are other members on here involved as well.

Many know who they are but I won't go there as some prefer to be low key which is understandable as DPIRD has managed to imply that we/RFW endorsed, promoted or somehow facilitated this position.

Quite a few times I have been told or copped the comment "how did RFW let this happen".

I can only reply with politer versions of "where the fk were you when this was going on"?

Yup instead of finger

Thu, 2022-09-08 16:33

Yup instead of finger pointing it would be better for them to ask "what can I do". This is the society we seem to sadly live in today where people think adding a filter to their Facebook profile is engaging in or instigating positive change.... I wish Adam had a spew emoji available.

Thanks to yourself and the other people that are working hard behind the scenes Rob. It also looks like the emails to ministers are starting to work as a few of the libs have grabbed a hold of the link to the petition and are promoting it on social media. That's including the opposition leader!!

Is there a way of turning

Fri, 2022-09-09 13:36

Is there a way of turning the petition link into a QR code? Could get all the tackle shops to put the QR code in there shops, could also put them on boat ramps and even keep a couple of print outs of it in the car. Whenever people are at the ramps could have a chat to fellow fishers and give them a print out or get them to scan the code and jump on and sign it right there at the ramp.
