if you wanna get 10knts plus - its allways good to have spare power there for tight spots - if it was up to me i would put a 9.9hp motor on it probly get 18 knots like 35km or sommething
yer i dunno i spose the 3 horse power would suit my dad had a 3.3hp aux on his 5.5m fiberglass and it pushed it at 6 knts the only worry is the small fuel tank but i think you can go for a while on them maybe carry a jerry can
I wouldnt belive the 5hps thing. I think it has to do with the rule for tender boats(boats to be used to and from the mothercraft) that they have a 5hp motor and that the boat has the same rego as the mothership. I know some people with a quicksilver 2.7mt inflatable with an 8hp and it wouldnt do 27kms you rung its neck. If you think about the 8hp insignia on the motor, it doesnt take much to turn it into a 5.
Its fine to think there is no replacement for displacement but a bigger motor may make your craft unstable and inherently dangerous.
I reckon you could stretch a 6hp, maybe 8 but I wouldnt go more without testing the engine to the boat.
Also are you mainly going to be in the boat by yourself? Heavy engine, overpowered craft have the bow ride up heaps whilst trying to come onto the plane.
go anymore than a 5hp because the transom on this boat isnt that strong and ive seen boats around the same size whith 3-5hp and im quiet pleased with speed preforance the thing i love about this boat is it has large reverse chines which will increase stability
if you stick under the 6hp no ticket needed.only thing you might need to do with the glass transome , reinforce it with sheet alaminium. you only would need around 2 pieces about 300 by 400. one inside and one outside. that will give the extra support for the glass when you fix the motor on. no need to drill any holes, just use sikaflex to hold it in place
because im only 13 and under age to get a RST and if i was old enough it would only be legal for me to go at a max 8 knots which will take me half an hour to get to my fishing spots

ended up getting
the 3hp yammha, its a good engine that starts first pull cold and its not too much weight on the transom
