I have used a Bushranger Max

Tue, 2013-07-30 11:08

I have used a Bushranger Max Air for years and never had a problem inflating 8 tyres in a row. I still have it as a backup but have the twin ARB compressors under the bonnet now for a locker.

Like they say, you get what you pay for. Companies can claim flow rates but heavy use like 4 tyres 15psi to 40psi is a good test. As long as there is a thermal cutout and fuse worse case you can try and get your money back

Tue, 2013-07-30 11:31

Had my Black Max for nearly 7 years. Hasnt failed me yet and still gets my tyres inflated before most of my mates brand new el cheapo ones. If I had to buy a new one again though I would go an ARB one(I like their plastic box they come in and the other air accessories you can clip on). Thing to also consider is what attachment the compressor has to attach to the tyre valve. I hate the clip/clamp on ones so changed the one on my Black Max for the screw on type.

Wed, 2013-08-21 19:26

I've had plenty of the 'cheap' ones, including variants of the Dr air pro 150L and they have all died for various reason and were pretty much unrepairable.

I've now got the ARB twin mounted under the seat of my patrol and I'm extremely happy with it, its also a 150Lpm but its MUCH quicker than the Dr Air clone.

+1 for the ARB

Fri, 2013-08-23 10:57

Ive got one, my dads had one for years, my brothers beaten a few up and they all still work a treat. And if you get the right one it adapts to Air Lockers if you choose to add them on later. Fits under the bonnet so its always there and doesnt take up any room in the car.

For that money, ARB is the only way to go.

I just paid $75 for one at MALZ.  I have done a fair bit of research into the cheaper ones (they all look the same), went with the MALZ one because it came with a warranty.

Any updates guys? Your compressors still going strong? My old one failed on my recent trip to Port Gregory. Going beach fishing every day, then having to pump up tyres is a real pain in the arse, so I wanna get a fast unit.

Repco

Wed, 2014-12-17 16:04

Just bought a Repco brand one this afternoon. 60% off normal price while in sale for $150.
Single cylinder, 160 litres a minute to 150psi.

Will be interesting to see how it goes. The last one died on the weekend up near Bundegi, had to reverse for about 3/4km with tyres down to I guess 10-12lb then when pumping them back up the compressor decided to give up the ghost. The motor runs but no air coming out so I suspect something has parted company with its mate. Not even bothering to pull it apart as its served me well for over 10 years

They have reed valves made out of spring steel in them, over time the metal gets fatigued and they can snap off. It happened to my cheap SCA branded one.

dr air

Mon, 2015-01-05 12:14

I sold my old car after having a bushranger max air for 10 years mounted in it (pumping 33" weekly) and got one of these Dr Air pro (albeit for a bit cheaper than the link ($160).  I have been impressed so far but dont do as much offroading as I used to, but it is heaps quicker than most 12V compressors I have seen, excluding belt driven ones.  From what I have seen I wouldnt waste my money on an ARB
