50lb 7' spin rod for the coral sea

Looking for some rod options for a trip to the coral sea later in the year

Must be able to handle 50lb braid pushed to the limit, but be light and easy to use for long sessions.

reel will be either a daiwa 4500-5000 or shimano 6000-8000

Not looking for a heavy popping rod, it will be used to cast 7' plastics, smaller poppers and metal slices around lagoons as well as smaller to medium sized pelagics

budget - $200-$500

cheers

terezes in spin go all the way up to 100 pound. (like 45kg) that one is 40-100 pound rated. theres is a 40-80 pound too ann i cant remeber if there is a 60 pound. but yeah they are like 279 bucks or so. good rods imo. i have mainly used the 100 pounder and they feel nice and handle lures well

ONe of the heavier smith kgs

Thu, 2012-01-12 08:45

ONe of the heavier smith kgs would be good, I just picked up a FCL labo 7H which is awesome, but a good PE3 would be max so 45LB. Put a new 4000h saltiga on it and it is a great outfit that is also useful back home. I know we all dream of maxing out PE10 gear on exotic trips but in reality there are plenty of times where a lighter popping/softy outfit will catch a lot more fish and be just as fun if the big boys are not playing

Look at the Yamaga options.I

Look at the Yamaga options.

I have the Yamaga Blue Sniper 65/3 for the same application, but if you really wanted heavier, you can get that rod in a PE4 7ft (It is the Blue Sniper 70/4).

When I bought mine they were around the $700ish, but they have come down in price. Probably get it around the $500 mark nowadays, especially if you dont mind importing it.

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.
