585 with 2kw 50khz transducer
Hello,
I have a FCV 585 matched with a TM 260 transom mounted traducer on a 20ft Aluminum Cat
I would like more fish discrimination detail in 400 - 700 meters as I deep drop for bottom fish.
Is it possible to match the 585 with a 2kw transducer I am planning on mounting the transducer on a pole (at the transom) to adjust the height and dropping it down a fair way under the hull to avoid any turbulence and associated issues.
I will only be traveling at 5 -10 knots while its down.
Main reason I am thinking the 2kw 50khz rather than a dual 2kw 50/200 khz is the size and weight differance 5kg as opposed to 15kg.
I know I am on the edge of trying to polish a turd in getting a 585 1kw transducer to give me a poor mans version of a 295 but I havent got the space for anything larger than a 585/87.
Any pointers as to the best transducer and if I need an MB 1100 would be most appreciated.
Cheers

585
I think your wasting your coin. The 585 doesn't take a 2kw transducer. Main reason for saying this is it won't give you the option in the menu set up. I'm sure it only says 600 or 1kW I would check with furuno dealer 1st before you buy 1.

Ran this system for a few years and it performs ok. If you interested I still have all the brackets which were removed off my old boat

G'day Southcity So I couldnt
G'day Southcity
So I couldnt connect the 2kw 50khz and the tm 260 to the MB1100 and then to the 585. I would need a seperate transducer for both frequencies then to the MB1100 then to the 585? I am a bit green around the gills when it comes to this stuff I just know what I am after as far as fish spotting goes and the 1kw isnt cutting the mustard!
I will pm you about the brackets!

A mate has it in a Grady
A mate has it in a Grady white. Works ok but I'd go for a 38hz 2kw. Same size as the 50 but works a lot better. I had a 50 an put a 38 in a few months back better definition at speed and bottom hardness. Iv got a 295 but should do the same on a 585

G,day Reece, Might give your
G,day Reece,
Might give your suggestion a run with the 38hz 2kw instead of the 50 as I have no experience with the 2kw at all and it sounds as though you have given them a fair flogging. Fitting these to an aluminium cat and getting a good reading is the next drama best I can think of is to mount both of them on a drop down pole and dodge about under 10knts. I was going to go with a combined 50/200 2kw r99 or someting similar until I reaslised the bloody thing was nearly the same size and weight as my boat!
