The $64 question - where should I go from Perth for 3 days fishing

Hello

My brother is coming to stay for 2 1/2 weeks late Dec to Jan 12.  Hoping to sneak off for a few days fishing. I have fished Dunsborough area and Kalbarri, I am thinking of going to Kalbarri but it's a long drive.

Can anyone recommend somewhere in reasonable driving distance from Perth that has good fishing for a 6m trailered boat.  Ideally small accommodation (don't have to recommend accom just area), or B&B/hotel, could camp but have to borrow gear.   What would I like to catch - no suprises Spaniards, Tuna, Mahi Mahi, Dhu fish, Snapper and a Baldy!  OK, just something memorable, preferably game fish.

Cheers

Richard

Out behind favourite island and the outer reefs along the 20-25m contour you'll be spaniards!

Generally smaller ones but still around the 10kg'ish!

All your typical demersals you will get there aswell...follow the cray lines!

Be very busy around that time aswell so most places might be booked out around Jurien

I mananged to get a small cabin at Cervanties Jan 3 to 8.  I am told you can launch from the beach. But will probably head up to Jurien bay as retreiving may be a problem - do you know if the beach is Ok for launach and retrieve?

Thank you all for your advice.  Please let me have anytips on where to go, how to fish, etc.

Wife has a face like a bull dog chewing a wasp!

Dongara is a great spot

If I had your boat that's where I would be heading. If the boat doesn't go in the water for whatever reason you still have many options and will be well rewarded from what I am hearing. Cervanties is a great place however so I hope you have a great time there.

What kinda boat ali or fibreglass?

Wed, 2009-12-23 11:17

If you got an ali should have no problems from the beach, but most locals up there use a tractor for bigger boats or fibreglass models. The beach is rather hard just it drops off quite steep so u may bog your trailer down and u need a 4x4 atleast.

Alot of YTK up there atm, fish directional bank for demersals either head out the north passage or the south.

My boat is an Ali, and I do have a 4x4.  So all good!

I will give you an update when I get back.

Hey mate - I have been frequenting that stretch of coast of late doing landbased fishing.

You should have no problems launching from Cervantes - beach access is easy from the northernmost jetty.

Check out Greenhead as well - a launch ramp there next to the jetty and it is only 30k or so north of Cervantes.
