Just booked a 5 day trip to the Abrolhos Islands with blue lightning charters in 2 weeks. How's everyone been going up there fishing wise? And also I'd like to buy and take a selection of jigs up there anyone got any suggestions on styles/ certain jigs and soft plastics that work well up there. Can't wait to go !!!
Thanks

All sounds good to me
Me and the boys are booked to leave Gero before dawn Wednesday. Fingers crossed the weather calms a little more than currently forecast and we are into some good fishing.
jigs and stickbaits will be the order of the day

The fishing is awesome but.......
That all depends on who you go out with. Heard many different reports from different operators. I won't mention the ones that the reports were crap (there were a few), but when we went out with Saltwater Charters again this year, the fishing and the experience were top of the class. So many different species of fish and so many options should the weather not be favourable. The max depth we fished was 45m and honestly thats as deep as you need to go to find quality. Given that, not many jig weights required over 120g or 2-3 oz jig heads. Plackies worked exceptionally well for us, and jigs worked exceptionally well for the trip before us. Surface action everwhere we went. You could stickbait at the front of the boat, while others were jigging at the back. Crays galore on Saltwater (heard of other operators keeping them for themselves), and non-stop fishing action. So to answer your question, any fluttering jig for demersals, and big plackies get the big fish. For me, the 8" Z-man Shreakz did the most damage. 80g Pirate jigs I've seen have worked well too.
Hope you do alright mate. Have heard from a mate who went out with Blue Lightning (and never again) that they only fished 80-120m all the time. I hope for your case that's changed.
All the best.

5-7inch white and pearl
5-7inch white and pearl plastics, jerk shad style and grubz for the dhuies. Jigs 40-80g killed it for me last trip, with loads of bait on heaps of the lumps matching the hatch with smaller jigs were the go for me. 120mm 40g stickbaits for macks, tuna and coral trout

I spent 4 days there last week. Smiths Mejiyume and McCathy's 6 inch paddle tails were the standouts for me.

:)
few weeks back when i went over with a few crew, one of the lads was using a octo jig with a pearl coloured soft plastic on one of the hooks.. Interesting idea, but will admit, he caught more than the rest of us untill we done the same...

BOM, or
BOM, or Willyweather
Bouyweather is good als, can pick up a free copy of the Pro version at the Geraldton Fishermans COOP store.
They always have a few printed out on the counter.
Note also, channel 82 is a repeater on Moresby Hills and best chance to get VMR, also recommended to use 82 in the marina as the sheds in the port make VHF16 difficult to the Point Moore base.
16/82 monitored by GVMR
