Hi, im looking for a live aboard charter that goes to the Abrolhos toward the end of April. Can anyone here recommend who to go with and who to avoid. It'll be for a group of about 8 people for 4 or 5 days. Cheers

I've seen a few abandon their Abrolhos seasons due to bans and the dramatic drop in bag limits covering that area.
Fisheries really don't want people going there.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

As far as I'm aware it has only been the logistics that stopped people in the past
Give a man a mask, and he'll show you his true face...
The older you get the more you realize that no one has a f++king clue what they're doing.
Everyone's just winging it.

I went there twice in the late 70's and was under the impression you needed to be with someone who had an island (cray ) licence. Caught a lot of fish but only to eat each day - brought zero back.

You could try Pelican
You could try Pelican Charters, they are still operating and have spots for May and June.
Price has jumped to $3,300 for 5 days with allowance now at 5kg for the trip.

Bit disappointing this is no longer feasible..

Went in the early 90s
Went in the early 90s. If I remeber correctly, didnt need permission. We just filled the esky with ice (and beer) and went. We were lucky as we were able to follow an experienced ex cray fisherman. I dont think I had a chart plotter back then, just GPS ?
Don't spend all your money on beer, boats, and fishing. Save some to spend foolishly

We had no electronics at all
We had no electronics at all Eric. Just a good tinny and local knowledge! It wasn't that hard to get baldies etc. just drop an unweighted bait with a handline near a bombie and hang on! We also caught some big snapper and spanglies.

I went first in the late
I went first in the late 80's then a fair few trips in the 90's. No gps just compass heading.
Only time we really messed up was when my brother unscrewed one of the compensator balls on the compass and we ended up closer to dongara than gero. At least the southerly made an easy run back up the coast. Just a longer day than planned.
