Abrolhos trippers-take note

those are intending to head over

Just been into Fisheries and discovered it is now possible to submit your off season notification by email.

I have the email address on the boat and will post it up later.

Handy for you guys from Perth especially plus the office will be closed for a few weeks over xmas/new years.

I asked about getting a receipt to carry onboard but she said as the emails wont be monitored continuously by the field officers thats not possible-maybe just print it out and keep it onboard after sending?

Maybe a rush of common sense

It had always seemed odd to do it in a way that makes it as inconvenient as poss for those who try to do the right thing...

this may be a dumb question.

What is the 'off season notification'? Is that like a permit or something that you are required to take to the Abrohlos?

its really a croc of poo now

Mon, 2013-12-16 16:51

its really a croc of poo now but they havent yet been able to get past the changes put in place for proffessionals

The pro cray season used to be 15 March to 30 June plus 14 days each side for setting up and packing up.

So outside of those times when Fisheries didnt have a permanent presence you havd to submit an "Off Season Notification", with a fine if you didnt have a signed, stamped original copy of the form on board.

But now the cray season there is almost the full year so those dates have no relevance anymore.

Two years ago I had a bit of a runin with Fisheries and the officer asked me "how many boats were over there?", I said about 15 or so, just at the Southern Group alone.

He told me they had 3 notifications but they hadnt pinged anyone at all yet so I guess the others were fibbing.

Mon, 2013-12-16 16:45

thats interesting Dodgy, I go generally about 6 or more times a year and this is the first time Ive been told this.

And over the xmas period is a pain in the ass as they are closed.

Previously I just put a form in for the entire holiday period.

But I know previously guys off here have had to post the form up, get it stamped and posted back to Perth to ensure the correct paperwork is onboard.
