Admiralty Charts or Maps West of Rotto
Submitted by Alan James on Tue, 2009-07-14 13:51
With the increase in popularity of fishing deep for species such as hapuka, bass, trevalla etc I'm looking for charts or maps of areas west of Rotto in particlar the Rottnest Trench and surrounding areas. Any info with respect to whether there are any charts and/or where these may be obtained would be appreciated.

Alan, With the time you
Alan,
With the time you have you should be able to search the deep for the fish!!
Go see Ryan or Honsu in Oceanside.... or young Luke in Campbells if you can get in before he heads north - he has caught some great deepwater fish recently.
p.s I am available for deckhand duties - bit deep for my sounder
Cheers

Had my first shot at the deep yesterday and came home empty handed. Green eyed sharks (4) don't count.

Current
Bodie,
I didn't think the current was a problem, well not where I was anyway. I had no problems holding bottom, but 48oz of lead helps I guess. Doesn't help the wind up tho. Are the green eyed sharks with the target species or if you are catching green eyed sharks are you not in the right country?
Paul
Merle passed on the winding I'm afraid. When two whales surfaced some 25-30m from the boat on our first drop she turned into a whale watcher.

hahaha - by the way I'm still waiting on my scones!
my understanding is that the green eyed sharks can be a problem if fishing with bait - this is why jigging is becoming popular... But I aint no deep water expert. From what I've heard it's all about scoping ground until you find the fish on the sounder.... unless you are like me and your sounder aint powerful enought for anything deeper than 150m.
