After having a talk with someone in the know today

I have a couple of questions. This will be a little long winded but i hope worth it.

QUESTION 1 :How can we the public whom some of which tagged a great many fish(Both demersal and sambos)get access to the info that we provided in the first place?

Question 2 Who has the info that we provided?

Question 3 Why is the info we provided not used (Told it is because we were to good at what we did)?

Question 4 Why are the facts that alot of these fish have been recaptured not made public?

Question 5 Do the rec fishing public know that if we cant provide evidence that a good amount of the fish released  survive the fisheries will be slowly closed down(CASE IN POINT the sambo aggs).

If it continues to be abused and the shark issues continue then there is a very good chance it will be shut down. The efforts of the likes of Al Beven Gary lilley and Wally(Love him or hate him) that already go relatively un recognised would be in vein.I for one have been using a release weight since Garry first came up with the idea and will continue to do so until i move on to the big trolling ground in the sky.If i was a diver and came up a bit to quick and ended up with the benz i will be down the bara chamber as fast as i could. Why not give the fish the best chance possible.Bring the small ones up slow....Some will not agree with what i put on here but i dont care. The more info the puts rec practices in a good light is good info.Daz caught a tagged dhu the other day and i have checked it against some info from taggers up this way and we can only guess it is an older tag but cant find any info out on it.Told Recfish west now have the info but unsure as to who has control over it.

So it is the final Question to Terry or one of the other guys at recfish what info can you make public on tag #55753.

Thanks for taking the time to read my rant and i hope it helps put light on a small group of people that have been working for years behind the scenes with little to no thanks for their efforts.I am one of them and proud to count most of the rest as friends.I thank you for your efforts.

Adam is it possible to have a recapture section added as i can as some people to add the recaptures up this way and we can put up dazs one and what ever other info the rest of the members have at their disposal.Cheers

not sure but it will be good if

it dates back to the old days of West Coast and Nortern suburbs ect.It means it was tagged as a small fish and has been swimming for a long time. This is my question Uncle if all the info we gathered all those years ago has been lost or is not used then for one i will feel ripped off and so should you mate.Garry lilley did a fantastic job when he had it all.I would even give him the precise co ords of tagged fish and recaptures with no fear that it would go anywhere else.

Another question

Wed, 2010-08-25 19:48

How are they going to get an idea of what is being caught in the metro waters that are now closed to the pros?

The fisheries  had their catch records to go by before and now will have to rely on the vollies catch books and who ever is going to volunteer their time to stand at the ramps for how many hours????

definately agree with the release weight, i think its just laziness that stops most people using them and bringing small fish up slowly definately works. I slowly brought up a baby dhui last week from 50m and after a few seconds of swimming it next to the boat it powered back down!!

I have release and recapture certs. for 99/2000, they were 8000 9000 numbered tags, I know we had about 30 recapures from fish caught on my boat, one small pinkie was tagged at rotto and recaptured at Lanciln.

Allrounder, have to agree with what your asking. Valuable info for all parties.

Mate who is a pro, fishing off the south coast has sent me about 5 tags from fish all tagged off Rotto during the summer and have been recaptured 5-6 months later East of Albany. Not released unfortunately. had no problems getting tagging details.but that was a couple a years ago when I was living there.

I have a tag from a YTK that I caught off Albany that was tagged in NSW. When I rung through all the details, they send me back a shirt and all the info on the original tag.

It had swum a bloody long way.........

Looks like no one has the info

Fri, 2010-08-27 15:17

collected over the years so you can only assume that it was all given to the scientists to help decide the new rules. Then they didnt think the studies said what they wanted to hear and came up with some cr$p about how we did the tagging to well and in turn got a good return of tagged fish.I am no scientist or even that good at math but just taking Uncles info 100 tags in 30 tags back= i think it may be 30% return and if only half of his tagged fish are recaptured then he would have a 60 % plus survival rate. One fish up here has been caught about half a dozen times in the last year alone. If the scientists that came up with the stats using caged dhu wish to do a real study feel free to contact me.If anyone doesnt think that study was flawed from the start then go and sit in a cage in the desert for a day and see if you dont die or stress out.So the main question still stands were is all the tag info?

i the current times of internet

Mon, 2010-08-30 17:33

and forums like this we can gather more info than ever before yet we cant get info gathered years ago.If fisheries are serious about research instead of listening to a bunch of scientists who have their wages paid for by organisations then now is the time.Give me as many tags as you want and i will get them in fish.I found a few more the other day so they will go in in the coming trips. We tagged another couple yesterday.
