Braid Question

Hey guys, buying a new Stella for barra fishing this season and was looking at the '10 C3000HG. The only problem is the braid I want to use (PE1.5 Avani Sea Bass Max Power) I can only find in 150m spools and the line cap of the reel is 270m of PE1.5 and I don't really want to put backing on. Hunted high and low and wondering if there's any good quality 8 braid type PE1.5 20lb braid available in 300m spools? If not I may just get the 2500 which is the same reel just less line capacity (160m of PE1.5).

I just got back from Singapore and had the same problem, I wanted some light braid for my Twin Power 2500 but there was this fascination with light, good quality braids coming in 200m spools, when I wanted 300m.
Needless to say I didn't buy any.

doubt you would need 300 for barra

unless you are going to use it for other stuff. you might find the 2500 is lighter in weight as well!!

Hi Barney, possibly will use it for other stuff which is why I wanted the higher capacity. Both reels are exactly the same weight so would prefer the 3000 but realistically I think 150m will suffice.

Yeah, that seabass is

Yeah, that seabass is niiiiice line. The problem is that such nice line is typically japanese, while the 300m is more typically our fishing. I.e. compare finesse with fish that dont run far vs hooking a 20kg+ mackerel on 10lb....
I just think the target market doesnt need 300m unfortunately. Which sucks when everything about it fits what you want except for length. Havent really found anything thats as nice and smooth and thin as seabass max power. The saltiga surf braid is actually really nice though. Been hard to find for a while, but back now.

What I did on my reels is just back them with some other braid. E.g. I have a 3000 exist with 300m of whiplash, with 150m topshot of the seabass. Same with another reel, but diff sizes.

It does mean you need a braid to braid knot, which some people seem really nervous about (not really rightly so when they're still using a bimini at the end of the line.....). Bimini to bimini via a quintiple cats paw will be as strong as the bimini in the weakest braid. And seeing as a bimini is pretty damn strong, its not really a worry. Goes through the guides well too. But then some people say its too weak having a join, even though they use biminis at the end Sealed

Given you have 150m of line, you're rarely going to see the join unless you get a really big fish bluewater. So 95% of the time it wont ever leave the spool. When it does, the connection is strong and reliable (test it out).

Btw, I think the values for braid tend to assume a bit of mono backing too. Would be surprised if you couldnt get 300m on. You can get away with no backing for most reels if you do the right knot, but think the stella spools have that really super slippery hard ceramic material which might mean you'd need a few wraps of mono? Though, wouldnt be filling the spool then just using the 150m braid on top.
