Alkimos Overnighter

Well, i started planning this overnighter 3 weeks ago, and as usual, nothing went to plan. Mate pulled out at last minute, replacement pulled out, so i thought stuff it, wifes away, im going anyways! Cruised up lunchtime Sunday, found a decent spot, and set up camp.

Threw a few in during the late arvo, but weed moved in so i shut it down and contemplated the milky way under the influence of bourbon, thank god the dog was there, so at least it seemed i was talking to someone... Hit the swag early in anticipation of a hot bite, after soaking the burley bomb all night. By the way, as long and hard as i looked, i saw no paranormal activity.....

Got up round 5am, had some sausages, and lazily rigged a line. Re-stoked the bomb, and proceeded to have a super hot 5 hour fishing session. Landed heaps of chunky Skippy to a kilo/kilo -half, that managed to crank a decent arc into the Snyder 7wrap. Weed had all but cleared and things were looking good. Few small Whiting, and plentiful Bull Herring kept things moving.

Late morning i'm reeling in what i presumed was the upteenth huge Herring for the morning when WHAMMO! Half way in the rod buckles, and line starts peeling of the 6500ssm at a rapid rate!! Thumping headshakes, and a solid 30-40m run then nothing???@?! Back to the herring again. Im stumped and majorly dissapointed. And then i reel in this poor little Flathead thats been slammed by something on the way in! Well, dog was happy, fresh Flathead for pooch!

Packed up and gone by lunch, cruised home and cleaned up. Ended up with a decent feed, threw heaps back, and missed a few. Saw heaps of guys get bogged on the beach up there. It can be tricky in places, and the council is making life hard there too with all the works. When driving through this area, please take care, it seems as if a accident with 4wd's or bikes is imminent up here, with peeps flying round in all directions, and remember to always leave it clean.

Scary

Would of been scary leaving the car in the dunes and camping on the beach, I would of been worrying that someone was up to no good all night .

Ha!

Nah mate. Firstly, the car is always in plain sight. I never fish metro without it.

Secondly, i have my fierce guard dog to protect the camp. He is the real Albee Mangles. I called him that because i originally wanted to call him Alvey, but the missus said theres no way the dogs being named after a fishing reel...

*Note the "waterproof and Tamper Proof Bandage" on his leg. He has staples in his gash now, after he pulled his stitches out again..

He's a tough little red nut tho'!

Bluie

Mon, 2008-06-02 20:45

I got a blue heeler myself , they are one tuff dog , only dog I have had that I would rate tuffer would of been my Pitbull / Rotty cross , ripped 3 toenails out chasing a cat along the road , we knew when she done it as she went from the bitumen to the verge and onto the grass , but still chased that bloody cat down .

We fish Loonies all the time , fantastic stretch of coast there , probably be there this comming week end .

Just asking were the Skippy from around a reef or out of a gutter . I would of been there this weekend but public holidays and Loonies is really for the Loonies, if your not there Thursday night forget about getting a good camp site , I suppose you have to put up with that sort of thing when it's the closest beach north of Perth you can actually drive on.

Brendan.

PS I got a trip out on Shikari Charters on Sunday so that made up for missing out on Loonies

This is the stretch of beach

This is the stretch of beach i was fishing. I stay mobile when im fishing there, as the weed moved, and with the outgoing tide the beach is constantly evolving lol.

Great fishes from the beach mate. I'm so jealous that I haven't even cracked a 1kg Skippy yet and you manage one off the beach. Must be rapt with that mate, awesome stuff!

Cheers lads,

Track

Thu, 2008-06-05 23:14

Thanx guys!

Carolyn, the track isint too bad, tho it does depend on how much the trailies dig it up, if we've had any rain, and if you plan on running the beach, tide and any storm action. The Alkimos Waste Treatmant Plant is going in there so you need to circle it to get there so it can be a bit confusing with all the tracks through the secondary dunes. Once you find a way in, remember it Sealed

If anyone is heading up there, feel free to PM me and i'll point you the right way.
