angry

hey everyone just gonna tell how and why the new woodman point lauching ramp has p*&^^% me off.

i hate the new design of the woodman point boat ramp, first of the parking area, i absolutely hate how they have made "beautiful plants and gardens and a huge limstone wall just as you pull out of the ramp, and so many corners, it like a maze, this ramp was meant to improve traffic flow- YEAH right, everyone south of the river now coming to this ramp and its packed,

now what i am most angry about is these new rammps have on 2 ocassions caused me 2 flat tyres and each time a 3 hour delay. How, well coming out of the ramp has these concrete slabs that go right out to the end, and having a limestone wall there makes a tight turn and the boat trailer has clipped the slab and flat tyres, which caused stuffed wheel nuts, causing wheel to come off at 70km

question is why couldnt they just make a HUGE area of concrete, plenty of parking and cheap

anyone else had trouble

they're making that whole eastern side a massive carpark, with main access from the main road.

i know what you mean though. it is my local too, and it has been twice as busy since the new ramps are in.

the worst bit was they spent so many million to build the ramp, and werent going to spend any on the carpark. there is absolutely NO etiquete down there, and i have been triple parked (blocked in) on a number of occasions. once it took me and another dude (who was also triple parked) nearly 2 hours to take off peoples trailers so we could get out to retreive our boats. we were lucky there was 2 of us there, cos it was just me and the missus, and some of the trailers were far ken heavy.

i have rung the rangers before to get down there and sort some people out with tickets and shit, but they cant do it because its not their durestriction.

Hope you put the right trailers back on the cars. Now that would be funny.

yeah I agree guys

the ramps themselves are great, but the parking facilities are attrocious. The traffic flow is a bit of a shambles also, but hopefully they fix that when they do a new carpark etc.

We can only hope.....

i hate how they have those you lauch here, you retrieve here B&^^$%&% i lauch where i want, i go where theres no people.

and what i'm most disappointed about was that they put the wall just 30m out of the ramp, without power steering and that concrete slab running up the ramp

These work well when the ramps are crowded as it provides a little bit of order in what can be a frustrating situation. When its empty then yeah, use whatever ramp you like.

How did a flat tire cause you to lose a wheel at 70kmh? Gotta be a little bit more to that story.

one simple solution. Dont use the ramif it pisses you off that much. fair call tho.I havnt used that ramp for 5 years as it was bad then and it sounds like it hasnt changed, maybe in looks bit not in practicality . we now go the extra distance and go to point peron

that is not a easy solution

Sat, 2010-01-16 22:39

thats not the easiest solution and this may change your thought but the old ramp was perfect, nothing wrong, more simple, but now theyve created into a maze and double the amount of people coming there and minor flaws trying to make it into lets say "a nice beautiful ramp on the beach", i mean i dont need beautifly plant and stairs and a maze carpark, not to mention the money wasted

and i dont want to drive to rockingham as living fairly close to woodies and spending extra fuel getting  to a different ramp.

and big john heres the story

so we changed the trye and was on our way home, drive along rockingham road some big wobbles in the trailer then we instanly started braking, and a secong later tyre was doing its own journey off out the the side of the road but luckily the trailer stayed pretty straight slowing down and didnt jacknife or do anything crazy, but then another 2 hour delay to change tyre and stuff, just really annoying

and the little bit more to that story was that the spare tyre we managed to find had slightlyworn screw holes or whatever and over time the nuts just broke the old weak rim and just fell threw. we straight away went out and bought 2 new rims and tyres

So was the spare stuffed or didn't you put the spare on properly?

It's fair to say the ramp caused your initial flat but the loss of the wheel is the result of something else. Look on the bright side though, no major damage and it didn't happen on the freeway at high speed.

!!!!! Your edited post just answered my question. Thankfully everything ended up okay.

these are hr holden rims

Sat, 2010-01-16 22:59

these are hr holden rims that one was 30 years old and in bad shape and didnt have a choice or we had to drive home a change tyres on a different rim, be we had to do that anyway, well we learnt from a bad experience and put 2 new rims and tyres on and have got 2 spare tyres. just that bad rim wouldnt have to get put on if the flat didnt occur

just one example to be extra prepared and to make sure your spare tyres are okay as you never know when youlle need them

i must agree with all the

Fri, 2010-04-16 14:00

i must agree with all the comments here and i'm glad to see i am not the only one who thinks woodmans point is a farce.

the ramps do not have enough turning circle for larger boats and 4wd's, hence the blown tyre from 'wide open', there is no rig up or rig down area for people to take of there straps and put bungs in like there used to be, they spend all that money and dont even put a fish cleaning station and wash down bays like there is at rockingham. everyone is in such a rush to get to their boat that they block people in or park so there is only a tiny lane for cars and trailers to move through.

the dpi did not do any consultations with the local ramps users into their idea's or what facilities to include, the car park is a disgrace and what was once a relatively user friendly setup, all be it busy at times, is now the worst designed and usable boat ramp in the whole of the metro area. for people that live close they are not going to travel the extra distance to rockingham and why should they.

there is one good thing i can say and the floating drop off jetty is a good idea and works well. shame they couldn't have succeeded with the rest of it.

Mon, 2010-04-19 08:32

having tried to launch and retrieve a big boat ( 28 footer) there, I can tell you it's a nightmare!

I have now resorted to only using Hillaries if I have to launch anything and my tub is better off on the racks at Freo, saving time, guarenteed safe parking and much less hassels than that ramp at Woodies!

just my view on it!

Hopefully it will be all

Mon, 2010-04-19 18:57

Hopefully it will be all sorted out in due course i think its a while off before its all finished,,saw a lot of boats down there this weekend, far more than normal i wonder where these folks launch normally ?

I saw all the cars and trailers lined up neatly in rows, i thought everyone did a great job seeing it appears theres no areas marked.

After i checked it out i launched at the end of Woodys pt,i parked 10 meters from the beach and was on the water in 5 minutes with no hassles,,gotta love a kayak,,lol

i know where you are coming

Mon, 2010-04-19 21:41

i know where you are coming from wide open,

i use this ramp more than any other and twice since they changed the parking i have been locked in by some idiot parking to close to me, not leaving enough room to get out with the trailer on.

i have had to do about a hundred point turn to get out,

when i have parked there has been no one else around me so i leave the lenght of my car and trailer away from the cars in front, only to find some wanker has come and parked nose to nose and then someone else has parked about 3mtrs from the back of my trailer. (its not rocket sience) every one else has parked facing one way.

i have left some very colourfull notes on windscreens, so i hope they got the message.

i hope it was not  fishwrecked members, but if it was, think about it?

cheers

I think it is great comparad

Mon, 2010-04-19 22:58

I think it is great comparad to what they had before, never had any problems at all.  Will be better again once the car park is completed.  Now for the %$#@% that tooks my bearing buddy covers off my trailor at ocean reef carpark on sunday - Glad $5 does not mean that much to me that I need to steel.
