Another PayPal Scam???

Hi all

My father inlaw is selling his tinnie and in response to his gumtree add he recieved the following email. I personaly believe it is very suspicious and told him to take cash only. I know this has a previous thread but thought it might be worth reminding unsuspecting sellers to be carefull.

Great, thank you for getting back to me about my message, I agree to buy at your price and i am keen on the buy myself. How I wish i could come for viewing and inspection but being in the military is not funny at all and we are away right now although I will be back in some couple of weeks precisely 9weeks. Due to my inability to make a bank deposit, I would be paying via PayPal which is safer for me and i will cover the paypal transfer fees. Kindly send me a paypal payment invoice or create an account at www.paypal.com.au if you dont have one. I know their are lots of dreamers and time wasters out there but this is real cos I will make a concrete pick up arrangement with my transport agent who will be coming over for pick up once you receive full payment into your PayPal account. Have a nice day. Just few more clear photos will be appreciated as well.

Please be kind enough to resend me your land/mobile phone number and i will try as much as possible to give you a ring soon albeit schedule is very tight for me right now. thanks and get back soon.

I'd like to know certain things too;
Are you the first owner?
What is your reason for selling?
I'm sorry, just want to be sure about the sale before i proceed

You cant scam paypal man!

Tue, 2012-04-03 09:47

You cant scam paypal man! though this does sound like a scam! I sold something on ebay about 6months ago! 45days after paypal had finalised it all I got a dispute lodged against me for the buyer not receiving the product.. took me about 3-4weeks to sort it out but I had to scan all the documents of me sending this package.. receipt from australia post.. track & trace paperwork the whole biz.. ended up finding out from paypal the guy had received the item & was trying to score some free dosh! DICKHEAD! I think he is now banned from ebay & no longer has a paypal account.. I wouldnt f**k with paypal they'll rape you harder than your ass can handle! just my expereince anyway! i love paypal! secure as! and I would only buy stuff from forums via paypal or cash in hand!

Thanks Ben, I couldn't get

Tue, 2012-04-03 10:06

Thanks Ben, I couldn't get that web page open when I tried this morning.

At the end of the day, if it looks fishy it probably is and don't take a chance. A retired bloke can't afford to lose 2K and a boat.

What happened to the good old days when you sold something and an actual human being turned up with real cash and exchanged it for the goods, you had a chat about the good times you had in the boat, shook hands and parted ways happy. All this new tech payment and transacting over a copper wire is playing right into the hands of the fraudsters.

Paypal themselves are bad

Tue, 2012-04-03 09:59

Paypal themselves are bad enough.

I had to report paypal to wa fairtrading/scamnet because in one case they confiscated the $$$ from a dodgy dealer, but wouldn't refund it to me.

Most of the scams revolve around paypal, getting paid with illegitimate funds, or being asked to refund in a different media.

You can always tell if it's

Tue, 2012-04-03 12:41

You can always tell if it's a scam because they will always refere to what you are selling as the ( item) instead of what it accually is you are selling. It's just a generic email that they sent thousands of times a day to every email on the gum tree system. They eventually ask you to pay the transport fee to a dodgy account before the funds are in your account. It's the same every time.

one of the paypal scams is that they send you a link to a fake paypal account in the hope that you use it instead of typing in yourself to see if funds are deposited

Ordered a motorcycle chain oiler from Hawkeoiler.  EXPENSIVE!~  Paid via PayPal.  Many years later, I'm still waiting...

Did PayPal assist me? Not at all.

If you're ever ripped off like this, alert other parties in your special interest forum. I've made the loss public across the world's M/C forums...
