Rip. Poor fella, its a shocking way for him to pass.
Apparently the drum lines have been deployed there and the otherbloke shafted / shot the gw in question. Hope it can be put down soon - if it is injured you would think it will stay shallow / in close to get the easy pickings

Sad, sad news. Rest in peace, Jay
PS: The article mentions an attack in Esperance. This was the second shark attack during the last few years in the Esperance region that I can recall. And let's not forget the recent pics of a GW following a surfer there either.
My son and I were catching squid near the Esperance port two weeks ago, when an (estimated) 4m long Great White started circling right up against the boat. Needless to say, we moved to another spot pretty swiftly. We were only 350m off the Taylor street jetty (a popular swimming spot) when this occurred.
Sharky waters indeed. There's no way I'll be swimming or diving there!

Why are
Sharks sacred on the west coast but not on the eastern seaboard, they have shark nets, drumlines and yet in WA,we have a bunch of fish lovers who put the safety of sharks above that of humans.
Ok ,I get it,have a love affair with a fish that can maim and kill it wil;l not worrie them as I doubt they go near the water let alone swim or do other activities.
So,is it possible for those of us who do,go into the sharks domain get some form of protection, not shark sheilds as they will not stop a GW once it has an attack patern,in the old days, particularly in the Eastern states peo[ple could carry smokies,.303 or 12gauge ,unfortunatly, some morons who new no better almost wipped out the grey nuse population, fools But if the need for people to protect themselves from the risk of injury or death maybe the West Australian police service could help with this,Not to kill all sharks, only those that present a clear and real danger to humans.

Politics in the form of the Labour Party and there greenie mates
will not allow this to happen Diver. As far as they are concerned you go in the water you become food for the GWS

Whats illegal is sometimes
Whats illegal is sometimes not wrong in my opinion, you free divers should carry a smokey if you want to. I've got some pretty loose footage of the boys in Lincoln cleaning out bronzies from a tuna pen using a smokey. 60 minutes had just done a story on how heroic the guys were getting in the pens being towed back from the bight and allowing the trapped bronzies to escape unharmed but that's just doing the righty while the cameras were on.
