Any Whitehills - preston beach reports

Hi Guys

I am heading down this weekend for an overnighter hopefully the winds have dropped a bit by then.

I expect there should be plety of herring/whiting and maybe some choppers around.  Has there been any Mulloway or Sharks of late?

cheers

Rig

Did anybody have any luck??????

HEAPS of small sand whiting smashing the bait where we were, will make for good fishiing when they grow up a tad more.

I got a few fat herring and a couple of undersize skippy, and a couple of banded sweep. There was no sign of anynthing big,no tailor, muloway or sharks.

There were heaps of people out there never seen as many 4x4s on a beach, plenty of the usual tossers screaming up the beach as fast as possible.

Small stuff

Sun, 2011-02-13 20:49

Hey landyandy
I saw you when I was leaving, looked like you were too heading south along the beach I was in a White patrol blue spotties heading north. I was running extremely late for the weigh in and couldn't stop, sorry.
I caught 20 odd herring and a couple of gardies I released heaps of chopper tailor and yellow fin bream. I also spent an hour or so with a monster ray and caught 3 sized blue manner crabs! Of the other 20 fishers from the club they went pretty much the same a few people caught flounder but no sized tailor. I had a balloon out for nil also

hey mate,How do they run

Mon, 2011-02-14 17:46

hey mate,

How do they run the weigh in side of things? Say someone catches a larger fish they want to release is there a way of recording the size with a photo on a brag matt or something and counting that? So If you got your ray in would that have counted for anything? Just curious...

Cheers

Despite catching littlies I enjoyed a great nite out with a mate.Even putting my back out yet again didnt ruin the outing.

We went out via Preston Beach, just for a look see.

When I was a young bloke we used to fish south of Preston, north of Myalup, never been North of Preston.GREAT STRETCH OF BEACH between Tims/Preston.

Was the Discos first decent beach run since upgrading the ECU/exhaust/intercooler.Im real impressed with the power, effortless even in the boggy stuff.

Weigh in

Mon, 2011-02-14 21:18

Alright with the weigh in all fish must be gutted and gilled then weighed on theclub scales. If you catch a fish outside of competition times such as my steep point mackie it gets tricky but if you use your own scales they can be compared to club scales and brag mats can help. Basically you can weigh in what you wish, rays are not eligible but sharks are. We have 1 comp a month with 2 locations s metro based event for those who can't travel and a away trip setes close sometimes far. Our last 1 was at whitehills our next 1 is at bluff creek we go to Cervantes a bit rottnest, steep point are some other spots frequented by the club. If you or anyone else want to tag along to a club event to see what happens let me know always welcome. I have only been a member for under a year but I am really enjoying it. If you want to know more about comp rules this is only a rough explanation toucann contact me.

Andrew that bit of coast was looking fantastic on the weekend, looks like a nice rig you have there don't see many ksndies that colour. What motor does yours have? If your going again let me know if your keen for a group fish

thats one hell of an improvement,  When my patrol eventually dies(still a while off) I will need to upgradeto another decent 4wd which is hard to find these days.  The new troopie is 1 option but a bit $$$$$ with the V8 diesel.  The landrovers seem pretty good how do they go on the highway as a standard car, are they hard to overtake/tow etc?

I am with the Surf Casters Angling Club, pm me if you want any more info about it

Hi RigI also have a TD5

Fri, 2011-02-18 15:57

Hi Rig

I also have a TD5 Defender, the Mrs steers that one.

Couldnt reccomend the Defender, always wanted one.Noisy, poor aircon, cramped driving position, roof leaks when it rains, its a modern Series Landy.Ride/economy/brakes are exceptional,it has ABS and Traction control.

The Discovery is a different story, quiet, excellent climate control and comfortable driving position.

As for towing, they tow really well, the TD5 is renown for its torque. They are fine to overtake with, plenty of go even in stock form.

The downsides. You will have electronic issues, everybody does.Ive got my own diagnostic gear and can plug a laptop in so I have that covered. There is no dealer support, the ONLY country dealer in WA is in ALBANY!!!!!!! Only 2 dealers in town, both owned by Barbagallos. There arent many specialist Landrover mechanics outside the metro area either.

When it comes time to upgrade, have a look at a diesel Disco3.A lot of 4x4 for the money, electronics seem to be sorted since the D2.Ford Territory is about to start using their V6 diesel motor/gearbox.

Me and a few guys caught

Wed, 2011-02-23 07:54

Me and a few guys caught close to a hundred choppers I guess, mostly under size but we caught maybe 15 size ones between up, I caught a 4ft shovenose and heaps of whiting and a few herring, Had a balloon out and had two bigs runs but lost them both after only a short fight. Good fun, we had the berley going and you should of seen all the herring, tailor, garfish and whiting at our feet.
