Anyone catching Bream or Flathead in the Swan recently?
Submitted by vitalida on Wed, 2012-02-29 08:58
The upper reaches of the Swan around Easat Fremantle, Bicton and Applecross have been dry for about a week now. Is anyone out there managing to get fish further down the system?
Cheers,
Dave.

My mate and I have been
My mate and I have been catching both all over the swan for the past few months, both species are widespread at the moment. Try fishing the flats and weed banks with dropoffs.

Looking for fish in the Swan + Correction
Aologies Daniel, I got it the wrong way round. I'm fishing the lower Swan and for the moment, not getting anything at all. I'm currently fishing the Bicton/Point Walter area. If you have any suggestions about where I could try for yellowfin, bream and flathead I'd really appreciate it.

Have you tried the areas near
Have you tried the areas near the blackwall reach dropoff? Definately some flathead and bream around there, I normally fish the north side of the river though. My mate caught a few bream around applecross last night however, so they are definately around.
Heaps of smallish bream upriver atm though esp around maylands to bassendean. Went about 2 weeks ago at night and got a bite every minute or so, just masses of them around. Didn't catch one over 27-8 cms though. Lost a couple of bruisers.

Your getting a boat?Well then
Your getting a boat?
Well then I'm sure you will find the fish. For flatties Just drift over the flats flicking lures and your bound to get one. They aren't the sharpest tools in the shed and often come back for more after spitting the lure.

Boat
Yes, myself and partner are finally getting a boat of our own. My dad, brother and I already have a 6.2m custom Redline, but we wanted something smaller for inshore and estuary fishing. We're getting a 420 Estuary Angler with 30-hp Honda 4-stroke outboard. I picked up a bargain Lowrance Elite-4 colour TFT fishfinder/GPS chartplotter over the 'net for $375 flat, and we're having that fitted next week when we take ownership. Its got everything we need: bimini, the Honda, forward controls/electric start, nice seating, all the safety gear etc, UHF radio and even a stereo system. Awesome little rig which will give us access to endless new ground. I was doing well (wading) at Point Walter up until about a week ago, with Flatties up to 48cm. Since the however, its dried up completely. Thanks everyone for your feedback.
