Conditions were perfect, apart from snotty green weed, the flats look good, well covered with sand ( unlike last year when they were a bit scoured out ). Only thing missing were the Flathead.... Started at bridge at 5am and worked my way around to Aquarama-ish. Saw leatherjackets, mullet, baby bream, few blowies, small whiting, a few small blueys aaaand....zero flatties. Might improve with some more consistent warm weather.
My boy got a good one 600mm off Seabird last Sat along with two Farkin Pinkies on prawn on our whiting gear. Pinkies off the sand who would'a thought. Nice feed of fat Whiting as well.
Going to be another slow year for flatties. That snot weed started getting real bad in the river when they started development for Elizabeth Quay & it's gotten worse every year since. I know plenty of people have theories about that green string & the temps but I fish the Swan hard & I have never noticed green string thinning out as the temps go up. I have noticed massive increases in it within a few months of any new development beside the river. My theory is that nutrient levels have much more to do with it than the temps but who really knows.
The flatties are there & I have been getting 3-5 in most 2 hour sessions but you have to find the right areas with warm water & not much string weed. Point Walter up towards the city has been the best producer so far but it's still down on last years numbers, which were down on the year before which were down on the year before that & so on. Developments have stuffed the river, hopefully not permanently.
Went out on the weekend and caught the biggest ever sandwhiting i've seen, the biggest was 330mm. My mate who was only 50m away caught 3 beautiful stonka flatties on whiting cubes the bastard.
seen a few huge bois fly off in 5cm water in lower swan, had one follow the lure in. put in about 20hours in last few weeks but its only just warming enough to Ff off that stupid string weed. hopefully it heats up the ones ive spooked have been monsters.

Hit Karrakatta Bank and Pt
Hit Karrakatta Bank and Pt Resolution pretty hard with minnows on Sat on the falling tide for zilch. Didn't even see any skit off.
I'm keen to grab some 1/4 and 1/8 oz Big John's Jigs to chase flatties through the weedier areas this summer. I reckon they'll be killer!

I have some 1/8th on the way to try. They certainly look like the flatties will love them.

Not consistently. A couple
Not consistently. A couple of small ones a week ago and spooked a couple of massive ones on Sunday.
The warmer weather this week should get rid of some of the snot weed and have the flatties a bit more fired up for the weekend.
