Submitted by Goodz on Thu, 2011-06-30 22:22
It's been farrrrrrr far too long since I've gotten out for a dhuie hunt and with the weather (I dont believe in jinxing it) looking fair, Weds is the day. Anyone heading out too from Point Peron?

Still looking the goods for Wednesday, might have to follow up on Thursday also, terrible having a few days off work at the moment.
All this working keeps getting in the way of fishing!

Well...... not the most
Well...... not the most pleasant day out.... my knee's certainly felt it all day with the constant 10kn chop. Fish weren't really on the bite either.... lots of Km's travelled for a couple skippy and a lousey sweep! Looks like weds might be a little better tho.

Out wide today
Well after a crap morning at work i did end up out of mindarie. All my plans changed many times and ended up going out with a mate to the bank 40km out.
Started very well with a good 60cm snapper followed with a baldie the same size.( caught by my friend ) Then the wind changed a bit and it got hard to hold ground. I finaly landed a 55cm dhu and put away the big rod so my other friend had a chance to land a keeper. He did hook somthing very nice but it spat the hook half way up.
I put out the the KG outfit and got nailed, after a few minutes a nice 67cm baldie hit the net. A few more small fish and the day was over.
I took a few good photo's but when i got back in found my camera at the bottom of the bait bucket full of water, (not happy ).
Anyway ,was a good day for a late start and was 100% better than being at work.
Appoligies to glastronomic for no cantact out there, I turned my phone off due to work related calls.
Cheers Grant..

40KM out?
Good to see you had a good day besides the camera.
We had our own little drama's but a great day with a good lunch at the Indian boozer overlooking the launch ramp!

Cool
Yeah 40k out but not in my boat, you were prob heading in as we were going out lol.
Sounds very cool with your tow cam. I would find it hard to take my eyes of the monitor to check my rod.
Wil have to catch up soon , I,m trying for sat or sun, but not too far out mabe just behind staggies.

team gates was out there
We hit the Dawesville ramp at 07.30 and we drooled over the conditions as we travelled along the estuary towards the Cut...it was glass and we hoped for the same conditions outside. As we approached the ocean, all wasn't well with the water, as their was quite a swell running from the south....as predicted on seabreeze.
There was a large pod of dolphins running amock with a school of fish and they put on a bit of a display.....so good to see.
The horizon looked lumpy, too, so we switched to plan B....run down the coast and check out the waters off Whitehills and maybe even further south towards Preston beach.
We had plenty of red on the sounder but nothing was really interested, and as the morning wore on, and the wind appeared to drop a bit, we decided to head out a bit and check out a popular bit of ground.
Once again the sounder had plenty on it, and even with the sea anchor, the drift was pretty fast, but we got onto a school of nice sized skippy, and every time we drifted over this particular spot, we'd catch a couple. I think we need to buy some more anchor rope and a reef anchor so we can take advantage of these skippy schools.
Final tally was 6 nice skippy, a large leather jacket that went back on the release weight, an undersized black arse (released), and something big that gave my new outfit a workout....right under a ledge and popped the 100lb leader...not happy.
It was good to be out on the water again, let's hope these winds drop a bit over the weekend so we can get out there again.
regards
