If you don't minde asking mate what sort of set up do you run?... Such as lures and teasers?... Recently got myself a runabout and hoping to increase my knowledge a bit after going out last wend for not a thing...

nothing flash
yet to open my account this year, have had some success, normally 4 rapala deep divers, 2 long 2 short, with 60 cm single strand wire to a mono leader and then braid, catch most of my macks a 30lb mono, wire trace, troll about 8 10 knots, look for bottom features, schools of bait with birds working, really whe there hot to trot will take anything, anchor and burly and use floaters with mono,[rotto etc]will lose a few but thats part of the game

Wow is that faster speed than usual or is that about normal? Maybe that's why I havent had any luck with the spaniards, I'm only trolling at 5-6knts! We had a shark mac swiping at my tuna skirt last week when I slowed down so the deckies could sort out a tangle, I was going about 2knts then, I was quite surprised. Might have to bump up the speed because it obviously works for you!

Cant believe there's weed
Cant believe there's weed everywhere Uncle, wtf? Is that off mindarie? Easterlies will be crankin sunday. Im suprised you get skippy, I was gettin them closer in but over the colder months. Yeah same here Beau, I troll divers at about 5 kn, but i have fairly light gear, and skirts at 15 but that 15-16 kn sucks in my boat, right on the verge of draggin its arse and planing, gota play with the tilt and make slight alterations to throttle to keep the jelly babes pushin nice. Is all a bit hard, especially when theres weed and not much action yet. Im with Uncle, might just anchor up, burley and have a few bait options out whilst playin with a placcy. I am always lookn for a bust up, I cant wait for the opportunity to pull up to one and ping a placcy into one

Getting a bit off topic but
Getting a bit off topic but do ant of you guys troll the 2m halco laser pros? I've been trying lately and even at 4-5knts they pop out the water. I'm thinking the single strand wire is the problem. Any tips?
Jurien next week hopefully get into the macks!

Especially for mackies. I live in the Pilbara where there are lots of macks. Rarely lose lures to bite offs. 80lb mono leader straight to a perfection loop does the trick.

I used to do all of my mac fishing
even as a guide with 80lb schneider straight to the lure with a loop knot. If we were jigging I would use a peice of single strand. Lost very few lures..

I dont use wire, just have
I dont use wire, just have 100lb mono tied on with loop knot (stays on the lure all the time). I have 2m laser pros in 160 and 190 and they work fine at that speed, some lures might swim shit straight out of the box, deep divers (big bibs) at 8+kn would put serious bend in my rods. If I start getting lucky trolling I might have to get an oh trolling setup with mono....any excuse to buy a new toy hmmm saltist ld and monster mesh

Given it a go the last few
Given it a go the last few weekends without any luck yet, just plenty of seaweed, keeps the decky nice and busy anyway. Might try this Sunday again. From all the comments I might try losing the wire.

did experiment with mono on lures last year
didn't help, mainly depends if fish are hungary, have caught plenty of macks with the wire in their mouth, lures are expensive
