I have one of them . asked the guys at BCF about it . If you do not set it , it will not affect the readings . Did not do depth offset on my sonar .

depth offset

I think the depth offset is for shallow water so you dont run aground and you protect your prop/leg.when you set your shallow water alarm it will sense the setting of the offset and self compensate.Your basicly telling the unit where the bottom of your boat is.

 Pretty sure depth offset

Pretty sure depth offset just allows for variation in transducer placement.

Not really an issue for trailerboats. its more for if for instance  you had a boat where the ducer is mounted in the keel  at -1 meter below waterline the transducer would read at 29m when in actual fact your in 30m.

I guess  it's only really made for boats with a big draft.

We call it keel offset in Yachting circles . Having a keel hanging 1.5 m below your transducer can be a pain in the bum some days. I’ve set mine to a foot below bottom of keel , this way if I run aground I’m a complete idiot ...:)
