this one guy hooked up a small mulloway but he packed up fast and left soon as he caught it.

Besides the small mulloway have you seen any other fish being caught?Could be there are none or very few there and its not your rig thats the problem

I've been down the ASI many many times and sat there watching up to 15 guys sit and wait for a big snapper while I have a surf rod there too to catch a big fish. Although while I 'm waiting for the big fish I'll go for some herring and gars too, last count was 46 between me and the wife, plus a good size skippy and a huge brown wrasse.

Would be nice to get a big snapper, but it's still fun to go home with a feed of herring and gars for the family.

How many all nighters have you done down there? I've lost count of how many I've done down there over the last few months. More than 300hrs (12-16hrs at a time)between ASI and N-Mole during stormy weather, mostly for nothing just a few small bait fish. So pretty much there has been stuff all around, though I have seen the odd hookup at both locations and a couple landed.

So keep on trying because the next time might be the right time.

Don't cast too far. I used to fish there years ago and got my fair share of snapper and all came from in close just in front of the rocks. You have to be ready to fight the fish as soon as they strike or they'll take you into the rocks and bust you off.

As DW says you just have to keep trying.

im quite convinced there are snapper in the sound all year round they just vary in number etc.

Its not like fishing is the kind of sport where you can say if you use this equipment with this bait & tie these knots you are guarenteed sucess it doesnt work like that, thats part of the huge joy when you do catch that once in a lifetime fish.

wer went down there sat morning got there about 430 mate landed one about 5 and then not a single bite till we left at nine thats fishing
