Bait Cannon

Has anyone made a Bait Cannon (not spud gun)

Seen some on you tube but at $799 cost to much.

Im going to use air to shoot bait out over the surf

Any tips on the build :o)

Thanks

Easy and cheap.

It involves PVC pipe and a reticulation valve. Wouldnt cost more than 70 bucks for the materials, if you already have a way to pump it up. Much more controlled than those dodgey flammable gas ones, but still powerful enough to kill you. PM me if you want details, wouldnt want kiddies making them. Im also fairly confident they're quite illegal. I have never shot bait though....

8.5kg lpg gas bottle with a tail shaft welded on the top. spark plug with an igniter from the stove on the side, put a valve on the bottom so you can purge it after shots...and use a small spirt of lpg to fire it.

Have you tried working on your casting techniques? All sounds a little dangerous and highly illegal imo. But i am keen to know how it works out. Good luck

Just make sure you use the rite pvc pipe, atleast pressure rated to 1200 kpa. You realy dont want it shattering on you if something goes wrong!

Ive considered doing something similar in the past but put it in the "too dangerous basket" haha.

Cool, I like it.

Very good way of disposing of blowies too . Have you tried it out attatched to a line? Wouldn't want the line to wrap around a guide or you'll be launching your rod into orbit too lol.

Looks great mate, bit of good old Aussie ingenuity.

Geez we are slowly being taken over by the wowsers though, as my dad says, soon we won't even be allowed to squash a snail.

How good would that be in the backyard as a kid, your own mortar for terrorizing the neighbors!

that screwed onto a bead breaker. It would fire a frozen orange out of sight.I think as we get older we get more boring and drive slower.I suppose no one on here has made a honkey nut bomb or a pea shooter or a ging either? A lure over 250 meters hey.The salmon schools are no longer safe.lol.

Love it, been thinking of same thing for years. Have made spud mortars but this looks afer and easier. I imagine recharge with a good quality 12v compressor would be a breeze.

A Wad!!

Sun, 2011-12-25 17:47

Agree with the guys that are all for it, If you loose an eye you have another.... I suggest you try a Wad of some description Ie the same way a shot gun pushes a couple hundred pellets in one go at pace. Also perhaps the upgraded model could incorporate an electric solenoid that fully opens and can be operated from a safeish distance or just get one of the kids to operate and you can supervise from the esky... Not exactly sure what your chasing here but the trick to catching a mulloway of a lifetime is walk out as far as you can turn around and cast at the beach :)

So far all SAFE

Sat, 2011-12-31 12:16

I think you would have to be stupid if you blow it up ,You drive a car around with 30/40 psi x4 ONLY held in by rubber holding up a ton or more !!!!!!!

you can buy them in the US for $700+ and they show kids useing them (NOT THAT I WOULD) got a bit of kick to it .

*****Rock fishing is the most Dangerous sport in the world***** !!!!!!!!! But we still do it.........

Works well ;o)))) With lure's and frozzen bait . i have made 3 size's from 30mm/40mm/50mm barrels 4/5ft long USE OLNY HP PVC

Play safe & Wet line's ;o)

Happy Fishing

Tue, 2012-11-13 20:12

Sorry to dredge this up but I think I may of heard of a winner.....A mate of mine went fishing out at the cliffs past Israelite on the weekend and a fella rocked up with a mad air charged contraption mounted on a quad!! He was firing medium sized salmon baits out past the breakers chasing big noahs! This thing rocked the whole bike when it fired...and to top it off they successfully caught and released a 7 foot Great white off the beach!!

I'll post up the pics when he gets back to work tomorrow.
