Baitless at the Abrolhos
Brent, Glenn and I spent a few nights at the Abrolhos visiting Doush who is a cray decky over there. We took Brent’s Trophy over and did it in style.
We decided not to take any bait and see how we fared on jigs and soft plastics and we didn’t come home disappointed. Daz had done a little recon for us and within a hour of being there we were onto a few. You would think there wouldn’t be any pingers out there.....
My first fish for the trip, a baldie on a Fanky jig. There’s that pinger again......
I also nailed my first ever dhuie just after, and on a plastic so was stoked. Daz showed us all up with some good dhuie numbers on his new fav plastic- a 7” Mcarthy in olive pearl.
The next day we hit a spot nearby and seeing as we had no marks out there we trolled for a hour while looking and got 7 or 8 mackies. We marked a few spots and got a few dhuies and trout on jigs and plastics, and Brent landed a really nice pinky while Glenn got himself his first plastic dhuie too.
We pulled the pots that arvo and got a feed together, then hit the cleaning table and a few cans.
Doush being Doush.
The next day Daz had to work so the 3 of us went to a untried spot. We found a few lumps and it was on. Brent was on fire, first jigging this 15kg cobia.
Then landing a few trout, plus this hook up of 2 well and truely legal trout on the one jig!
Fish of the day!
We then came back in and grabbed Daz and refuelled and hit another untried spot. We started with a troll and Glenn landed this yellowfin tuna
While Daz and I had a double hook up for the 2 biggest dhuies of the trip, his one a octa style jig and mine on a jig
Anyway during our stay we fished, set and pulled some cray pots, had a swim and a spear and just relaxed. We even managed a few brews, some pool and ping pong at the pub over there one evening.
We had a fish on our last morning and Brent finished the way he started, with a nice dhuie.
The weather couldn’t have been better, the company was great and the fishing was way better than we expected and can’t wait to do it all again. We still left plenty of things to do for next time. I've gotta send out a big thanks to Brent and Daz for the trip.

Great Report
It's a playground out there so long as the weather holds out. Fantastic pics also. I can remember some times out there in my younger days when it was like that and then turned to absolute shit.
After looking at all your pics I am very undecided as to what i would eat first. I guess the Crays would make a nice starter......

I forgot to mention,
I forgot to mention, probably the most fun we had over there was "underwater guided baldie fishing". One arvo we jumped in for a snorkel while Brent and Daz cast their lines from the boat towards us in the water. We'd then tell them when a good sized baldie was near and watch them hook up and fight the fish. It was a real eye opener seeing how the fish behaves and fights underwater, completely different to how I pictured it in my head going by how it feels on the rod.
And as for the double header trout, that's someting I'd only think would happen at the Monties, not the Abrolhos. It really is paradise out there with the right mix between northern and southern species.

Hay guys yeh had a great trip got lucky with the weather. Thanks for the write up tim great job. Forgot to mention the waypoint called TTT (Tim's Trout Tower) awsome coral lump we puuled some good trout from. Never thought i would find a freediving spot where the baldies are as thick as blowies.
Hay Web the rod getting all bent up on that cobia was a PE 1.5-3 Jig force matched with a Twin Power 5000SW

cheers for the comments
cheers for the comments guys. I've been lucky enough to fish most of WA including the Monties and Kimberley and reckon the Abrolhos was right up there with the others as a "must fish" destination. To be able to land the mix of southern and northern table fish is pretty awesome. If the opportunity comes up to fish it make sure you do everything to get on that trip.

Great report and pics yes it
Great report and pics yes it is an amazing place i have been lucky enough to get over there for a week every year for some fishing and diving. Its amazing how fish react to having a hook in them as you said its just not how you imagine they do until you actually go down and watch them hook up
