I think Poida is working today so I can't get in touch with him. Hopefully someone else who was been up there can help out, can't say I've done it yet, just edited up the video footage and it looks like good fun if the fish are there!
Take it your helium ballooning off the rocks??? We basically gang up a gardie, attached to a wire trace, straight to your main line. If you are running light line or braid then 10-15m of shock leader is a good idea, which also helps trying to stop sailfish tail whip you.
We then attach a ROUND, not teardropped, balloon to some light line around 5kg, walk it out to the rigged rod and gardie, and let the balloon take the 5kg line say 20m out. We then cut the5kg line and tie on a clip swivel, and clip the clip swivel above the wire trace so it basically runs up and down your main line. We then disengage the drag and let the balloon pull your line out about 15m, then toss the gardie off the cliffs. There is a great article in the latest wangler that goes into a fair bit of detail, worth buying if you are unfamiliar with ballooning. With your gangs, put the odd treble between a couple of hooks to act as a stinger incase the bait gets a hit from the wrong side. Use Gardies, you get less sharks this way, and if you can find them take the pencil thin gardies, we cleaned up on them last time and it takes minimal helium to get them to bounce nicely.
one of the latest fishin mags has a section in it on makin up balloonin rigs...cant remember which one(fishin world maybe) ...gives you diagrams and lets you know what to use....hope its of good use....happy fishing...wish i was goin!!!!

At Steep you don't need much line capacity as you set the balloons about 100-150m out. At quobba and wagoe ect the hits seem to be much further out 300m+ so i generally use a deep spool Alvey as my ballooning reel. Most people use an overhead these days Jay, and a boat rod.
I use a 6/0 Penn Senator Hi speed , holds 900 m of 15 kg line .
Also had a 9/0 Penn Senator with 900m of 24 kilo but that was way over the top for Steep point and Quobba, so I sold it , now I use the 6/0 on a modified Daiwa sealine powerlift rod , YEEE HAAARRRRR .
Biggest fish so far was an approx 10 foot Lemon shark.
Plenty of smaller sharks , macs , tuna etc , only ever hooked one sailfish but didn't land the bugger , still wanting one from the shore but , seen plenty of sailies as well as Marlin off there , had a approx 8/9 foot marlin follow a lure once , I recon that lure was shaking as much as me after that .
