Banded Sweep

my son got a cracker of a Sweep on Monday, measured in at 38cm, biggest I have seen.

So how big do they get?

Always thought the same Sam until we tried them one day

If you spear a good size one bleed it out on the float. Then when filleting cut around the outside and pull the skin off with a pair of pliers. Then fillet as normal. When cooked well they go ok.We always keep a couple for a feed that night and freeze the bauldies ect for later on.I am told they freeze well but never tried it.I think you will be surprised as to how well they eat when fully bleed out.I know i was.

Well tasted pretty good fried

Well tasted pretty good fried up in butter and little fresh herbs on top! served with salad and chips.

My son is real proud of his "meals on reels"

by the way definately a Banded Sweep, had the yellow mouth markings and spot on the ID pic in the book.

Fought like a cracker, had the son struggling to get it up...lol

oh and yes, I did ask him to hold my rod while I bait his and he then claims the fish!!!!

Yep, banded sweep. Sea sweep

Yep, banded sweep. Sea sweep get a LOT bigger and taste better....actually, quite nice, heaps better thane breaksea cod for example, despite what peoples Pre conceived ideas are. Pull like freight trains and have had many calling them as big pinkies......usually to some disappointment.

Breaksea Cod are very over

Breaksea Cod are very over rated IMO. They always seem to go rubbery no matter how they are cooked. Don't get me wrong, I don't keep sweep, don't like em much and agree they smell, but better than BB's. Each to his own I guess. Humble sand whiting beats them both hands down.
