Beach Fishing

Tasmanian import here, (dont hold that against me) and love this site. I am excited by the prospect of doing some decent beach fishing on these fantastic beaches around Mandurah. I have to invest on a beach rod though. My question is, are the cheap "Big W" rods and reels ok, or should I invest in a better rod and reel. I should point out that I am quite a novice.
Cheers

Welcome...
Being a Tasmanian can't be all bad LOL.
Any beach rod is better than no beach rod IMO. It's really up to what budget you have and ultimately, the type of fish you are chasing. Personally, if I were starting out I would get 2 rods. One would be about 10 foot with about 20lb line and the other would be a similar length but designed for much lighter fishing (Herring, Whiting, etc.). Once you learn the area and available species then you can start to gear up with more specialised setups. Become a fisherman first and then start to worry about brand names etc.

The beaches around mandurah
The beaches around mandurah produce good fish all year round a trusty 100 dollar beach combo would be ideal and a cheap flick rod from big w would be good for the small fish ,local tackle shop tuckeys tackle is the best for fresh bait and there always happy to point ya in the right direction , hope this helps ya mate
