Beach fishing at Quobba

Hey all, I am planning for a 4 day trip to Quobba at the end of July with a mate, probably just spinning and bottom fishing.I have seen a lot of info about fishing from the various ledges, Garths , Caves etc. which we will definitely be doing weather permitting, but I am also interested in doing some beach fishing, spinning and/or bait but there isn't much info online. I read somewhere that the beach south of the reserve at point Quobba can be good but very little other information available that I can find. Since time will be fairly tight for us I was wondering if anyone has any tips regarding locations, baits, lures etc.

Tracks

There are tracks in to the beaches south of the Blowholes campsites, you will need a 4x4. Just about opposite the salt works turn off is one, another is by the telstra tower, they will take you through to the coast and its a matter of finding a gap in the reef  where there is clear bottom.

You can try at the beach just north of Quobba homestead or just before the salt road crossing on the beach  where the Nortunda 2 wreck is

rods and rigs

Sun, 2022-05-15 19:07

I am planning to take 3 outfits.

For beach fishing I have an old (25 years) 9 ft light spinnng rod from the old country that I used to fish for pike with, line rating 5-8 kg  coupled with a Vanford 5000 reel with 15lb braid which I am planning to use for beach fishing, i am thinking I will get some 30lb flourocarbon leader for this, and have a variety of small stickbaits, slicers, poppers and soft plastics. I wasn't planning to use baits with this except possibly casting an unweighted mulie perhaps.

We will be there for 5 days so i am thinking day 1 will be mostly exploring  and looking for nice spots.

we will also be fishing from the ledges , for spinning off the ledges I have a 10ft penn prevail and a shimano 8000D baitrunner reel, not an ideal reel for spinning up there as the gear ratio is a bit low but I can't see myself getting a saragosa or similar betwen now and then so I will just have to wind fast when using metals etc. I am taking a variety of lures, metals 50-100 g as well as  stickbaits, Xraps etc and some poppers.

I am also taking my 13 ft Zing surf rod to use for bottom fishing with a 12000 baitrunner reel, both reels have 50 lb braid ,and I am planning to use a leader of about 20 meters of 80 or 100lb  on the 12000 for bottom fishing. for bottom rigs I will use  50 lb mono with either ball sinkers to the hook or standard paternoster rigs with a snapper sinker.I am also thinking of using the surf rod for bait fishing at night from the beach south of Point Quobba ,  using the standard patenoster rig I use on beaches around Perth.
