Beach Rod
Submitted by Carolyn on Fri, 2008-05-16 15:09
Hey Guys Hubby needs a new Rod to suit Alvey. He fishes mostly beach. He is undecided between Snyder Glas 7 or 9 wrap
Or an Ozflex SU 400 or 450. ???? The Snyder glas has fuji guides which i think are better.. Any Advice would be appreciated.

How long a rod are you looking at Carolyn?
If you are looking at something for an Alvey you want a low mount rod.

Sorry, Carolyn just checking
Personally I prefer the Snyders and would go for a 7 wrap.

7 or 9
Well a 7 wrapp off the beach and a 9 off the rocks , I have both ( well 2 x 7 wrapps and a 9 wrapp) I love the 9 wrapp but it is a heavy bugger and I use a harness with it , but it can and has winched 5 kilo snapper straight up the cliffs at Steep point and Quobba , when a shark is zeroing in on your nice big snapper you have to get it out the water and a 9 wrapp can do that easily, but off the beach the 7 wrapp is my weapon of choice , I have 4 Aveys ( and 2 seamartins) and they are my favorite reel for casting out a big bait ,with my 9 wrapp I can cast a whole 250mm Tailor and 6 OZ star sinker with it how many spinners ( in the same price range) can match that .

Thanks Maverick
Hubby said you just answered his question regarding 9w or 7w
He recons were not going to be doing any cliff fishing for ages so it looks like a 7wrap.. Thnks for the info. One day i will try Alvey.

Hey Maverick
Seamartins ay. I would love to get a hold of one of those. I was told recently that they may be bringing them out again.

Snyder
Go the Snyder, much better rods i reckon. Sounds to me like and 8 wrap would be ideal incase you ever want to launch big sinkers/baits. Go for a 13-14fter and you'll never be under gunned
