Best Sounder for my budget?

I'm in desperate need of a new sounder!!! Thought i'd see if any one has any good models that stand out. My budget is around the $1000 mark, give or take a couple of hunge. Most of my fishing is done off bunbury and the capes so anywhere up to around 90m. mainly 15m to 60m though. I want bang for my buck!!!!

Hope to hear soon, cheers.

Cant go wrong with either furuno but will push your budget especially the 585, Bang for your buck i think its pretty hard to beat the Lowrance HDS 5X which you can find for under $700 if you look hard enough

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

OK another question... As I do a fair bit of diving for crays off bunbury I am always keen to find little patchs of crumbly limestone reef that hold them in deeper water (25m-30m). This being said i need the best quality of bottom structure and fish detection possible. Any comparisons would be good/.

Yep, furuno 620 for sure. I have a raymarine, so not biased, I would recommend the raymarine as a combo over anything else, but for a pure sounder, furuno is definitely the go to. Am thinking of getting a 585 with 1 kW to supplement the raymarine, lucky tim, where did u get yours from?

why do you need a 1kw 585?

Thu, 2011-06-23 19:04

why do you need a 1kw 585? You fish up to 40m 99% of time & can't pull fish even when you find them LOL

Cheeky little bugger........do you recall the words "shotgun first snapper" the other night........haha.

If I keep my boat, will look to upgrade.........was hoping the 1 kW in 40 m of water would make all the fish float to the surface, as I seem incapable of jigging them!!

Furuno 620 for me!

Just got one.

Campbells special on 620's is now finished (they are clearing all Furuno stock). They have the GP7000F on special for $2k at the moment, about $800 cheaper than anywhere else if you want a sounder/GPS combo.

How is the best way to network gps with the furuno 620.

Do they take the sea map cards and have programs for that sort of stuff???

Furuno

Mon, 2011-06-27 22:48

Furuno 620 or Lowrance HDS5X, both units have the same power output both are stand alone dedicated sounder, obviously the Furuno are dearer (and you get what you pay for) and the lowrance is cheaper but the Lowrance has a much higher res screen which can show better detail in a crisper image. the furuno is a great little unit and you wont be dissapointed and can be fine tuned alot more the the lowrance, if your a real keen fisho the 620 is ideal but even still in those depths the lowrance will not dissapoint. PM me for a price if keen.

I have the 585 and used it in depths from 15-200m no probs at all. Took a bit of time to work out and I will get a better one when I have the coin but I'm pretty happy with it so far, had no probs finding fish.
