and many say we in the land of milk & honey, well the milk is going sour and the bees have returned for their honey.
Another example on a far bigger scale is the closing of Sino Steels mine in WA that would have been the mainstay of the new Oakgie Port & Rail-line.
at $2billion for an iorn ore mine, thats just far to expensive.... and it's the sign of the times for many Australian business ventures, be it a boat builder /dealer in the industrial area to a mine in thePilbara, the fact is we have priced ourselves out of the ball park from cars, boats, TV's to Houses, buidlings, Dump trucks and Mines too....
those old enough to remember will know the boom and bust time of 1997~1998!!!! and may think they seeing it all over again in WA! And others till spruik housing going to go up 20% in 3 years, big salaraies and more money than flies in a dunnie pile!
a bit like the those that partied on as the Titanic sank??? ( yes could WA industry be the Titianic of the day, ???? so arogant it thinks it can right huge prices for everything....???)
And yes I am sad to see old business venture and family owned shops close, but how are we going to control rampant inflation of good sin Australia, when the rest of the world is in fact getting cheaper.
Even the UK is cheaper to by outboard motors than here! WTF....
wouldnt mind betting that the chinkies are jostling for a bigger slice of the port. None of the Chinese companies are autonomous. One wont close to the detriment of the others.
And this is the way for them to get it.
They know the pressure will be on the WA Gov and OPR to make it happen.
I bought my boat from Offshore several years ago..
At the time of purchasing, they were the only dealership that showed a genuine interest in helping a prospective customer !
After visiting several of their competitors, no names mentioned, but 1 on Great Eastern Highway in Belmont and another in South Fremantle, neither of these dealerships could be bothered getting off their arses to offer any help or advice, even tho I had a bank cheque ready to go !
And that's with spending up to half an hour in their yards !
Dave from Offshore was prepared to offer advice and time for a new boat owner...needless to say his customer service won me over !
Well said Kaney. I bought my first big boat there about 20 years ago a Pacemaker and it never missed a beat. I remember at the time I went to Blackbeards and they wern't interested as I wasn't spending enough. $10k at the time I thought was a lot of dough they just pointed me down the yard. The guy at Offshore was a volunteer sea rescue fella and I could see he had a passion for boats and gave me a lot of advice as I was still a bit green at the time. Shame to see.
Well Wa is not the only place suffering just went to my home town of Cairns Nth QLD like a ghost town the whole of QLD for that matter ohh the fishing was fantatic thanks!!! Australia is looking pretty ordinary across the board. My thoughts of opening a little Marine repair, detailing business went out the door last year when i saw the marine industry struggling.Thank god for the mining industry keeping the country going ha.

Yup
With most people breaking into the US boating/accessories import market, thats one reason why they had to start selling Avans etc.
With the dollar the way it is and everyone looking to save money on gear overseas, they probably wont be the last.
