Yea same, woke up and just thought it was a crap movie.
The kids were all excited and asking what was going on, why did a rocket hit a building ?, thought it was strange to be playing something like that so early.
Dragged myself out of bed and couldn't comprehend what I was watching ....needless to say, I was glued to the tv all day, just horrible.
My fishing spots are so secret........... even the fish don't know where they are !!

I was in Tokyo
Staying in a hotel just up the road from the US Embassy. Saw it on the Tv as we were going down for dinner. Tried to get online in a bar we went to, internet was in meltdown, kept timing out. went back to our room and watched it over and over again, all night.
Couldn't get past the news crews camped outside the embassy for the next couple of days, they would see the western faces and charge up, hoping we were americans.

Sydney
Was working at the Kurnell oil plant in Sydney, was quite worried as the airstip lined straight up with the refinery.
Watched for them bringing in the planes for an hour before they evacuated the site and sent us home.

At Sea
We were anchored about 50nm NE of Bedout Island, turned the radio on to pick up the latest weather forecast at around 0530 and all we got was news of the towers coming down. Was another 4 days when we came in to unload and refuel before we actually got to see it on tv. Very frightening stuff with 6 blokes all jammed in trying to watch it when we came in to reception range

Camped at the Bluff surfing,
Camped at the Bluff surfing, still lived in SA then and was on the last leg of a 3 1/2 month trip from home to Darwin and across the top then down to the bluff for 5 weeks then home.
To be honest i was a tad naive and didnt even know what the trade centres were, didnt see any footage for a while but it was the talk of the camp.
That wasn't long after the Peter Falconio murder up near Kununara, We got stopped and questioned south of Broome somewhere.
The cops were chasing a white 4wd and we had two of them between the 4 of us. We also had lots of rifles guns and bows that we didnt have permission to have interstate.
They weren't worried about us though they seemed to know specifically what they were after.

I was working night shift on
I was working night shift on the freeway in south Perth. Prep works for the railway line.
Was about 9pm and had just ducked of to grab something to eat and my coworker called and asked if I was listening to the radio. Commercial had already switched to pre recorded so bad no idea what he was on about. Still took 10 minutes or so to fathom what was happening.
Watched federal police vehicles head south on the freeway all night. Guess they were heading to garden island.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

Last to know
One of the last to know in the world!
I was one of about 30 people on an FPSO off WA with no communications. Sat system had fried. We knew nothing til 6 days after when the next chopper came in with crew change. The lads bought the recorded news in on VHS.
Needless to say, it was a pretty somber morning watching what happened.
Never forget that day.

I was sitting
at home alone in Spearwood (old fart was taking a new fuel tank to Karratha) and went to the loo came back, thought it was a movie then it hit me it was the twin towers coming down, I was crying thinking this is the end of the world.
Couldn't believe what I was seeing, seeing the second tower being hit by a plane, terrible.

Great leading question and
Great leading question and while that was earmarked in history what about some other world events?
Death of Princess Dianna.
And for us older members.
Landing on the moon?
Assasination of president Kennedy?
Or even the death of Elvis?
mmmm have you opened up a can of worms?

Bali
Was in Bali partying it up in the Sari Club. Sometimes think I was lucky the Bali bombings and twin towers attacks weren't in reverse order.

I was living in Sydney and as
I was living in Sydney and as a trader we all went back into the office that night, markets were extremely disorderly and there was no liquidity (that's like saying there were fish swimming everywhere but no rods or bait).
On a more sombre note, we lost 2 people from our broker arm who were based in NY, good blokes. A guy I catch up with for a beer every now and then was in the 1st tower at a seminar when the plane hit, he was lucky they were on the mezzanine floor. When the plane hit they all when down the esculators to leave the building but security wouldn't let them outside as there was glass falling off the building - about 15 minutes later they noticed a part of plane engine in the street (they had been told it was a light plane that had hit the building) when they realised it was a commercial airliner they pushed past security and made a dash for it - saved his life. Despite his good fortune/decision to leave he has never been able to move on - yesterday and probably the rest of this week will be crap for him.
That's why I fish, its my escape - ping my spots all you like, you cant make me angry, that left me 15 years ago (sorry if that's a bit deep!)

not too deep, bali bombings
i was on a flight from perth to bkk with garuda airlines , but it involved a 12 hour stop over in bali , rather than sit in the transet lounge i rang my brother who lived in bali to come and pick me up , we had a boozy arvo and diner at paddys bar then he droped me back at the airport for my conection to bkk . more beers on the flight to bkk finaly got to don mang airport , did battle with the shocking bkk traffic into my hotel room , ahh finaly i thought just have a quick look at aussie asia news on tv and crash , tv on wtf the sari club was in flames and then saw that paddys had gone too , spent the next 2 days trying to contact my brother turned out he was ok we had missed the bombing by about 4 hours . Rip all those that lost their lives that night in bali

I had been out for dinner
I had been out for dinner with my wife for our anniversary which is 11 Sept. This is not a date that I am ever likely to forget. As others have mentioned a despicable act of terror.

Phuking disgusting...I don't mind a bit of multiculturalism but do not have a one second for that so called religion...should phuk the brain washed idiots off, they don't belong in a western world full stop.
So glad that labour and the Greens didn't get power...and am glad Pauline got a few seats.
Apologies for rant.
