Wished I'd managed to hook a saily up in Exmouth. Great sequence shot.

Great Capture Big John
Did you spend most of your time targeting the pelagics or did you also have a crack at the bottom stuff also?

Caught a large range of
Caught a large range of pelagics as well as some good bottom fish, often catching both at the same time/spot.
Didn't catch it on a lure Mav.
No video, just plenty of digital photo's. Got a lot more jump shots, including some right near the boat, but I think the sequence submitted portrays a good story.

Any Reds Big John?
Did you manage to get into any big red emps John? It was something we were missing from our trip. That green jobbie you got must have given some serious stick as well. Did you keep him or release?

No Reds but a few
No Reds but a few Coronations.
Didn't try for the reds Adam. Was all set up for some deep water bottom bashing but the winds were against us. The first few days when we had calm weather we spent time pulling plastic between 50-100m for marlin. Raised a few in the spread, had two strikes, but no hookups. As the easterly picked up it dropped the surface temp from 25.5 down to mid 24's, this really quietened down the wahoo etc. for the remainder of the week.
Got the green jobbie in 26m of water on a Penn 9500ss and 15kg mono. Good tussle. Tried to revive and release him but he was knackered and I didn't want to waste him on the resident sharks. Had some of him that night in a thai green curry, and bought the rest back as part of my quota.
No big spangles this trip either, very strange.

No Big Spanglies
That's because we caught them all the week before John. (Hehehehe)
Nah, we caught a few really big ones , but a lot we returned to grow a bit bigger for the next time we head up there.
There were more sweetlip and trevally than anything else.
I would have traded every single big Red and every single big Spanglie I caught for one of your Sailfish.
Top catch and a great pictorial.
Cheers

How big were the spangles you got Andy, and did you get them bottom bashing in the deep?

Can't see the pic Andy.
Can't see the pic for some reason Andy. Is it the same fish as the one in your trip report photo? Nice fish if it is. Anyone know the maximum length that a spangle has been recorded at?
