Bimini to braid...

Hi guys,

Just spooled one of my reels with 50lb super braid. Will be using the reel for land based game fishing,  so need to connect a mono leader of around 50lb or so.

I use a bimini on the braid and albright on the mono.

Seems alright, but anyone got better options for this??

In an LBG position you would benefit from a wind on if you want to give those a shot.

for 50lb superbraid (12lb diameter) how heavy wind on leader would you suggest. Given that Im using a saragosa 18000 and a tiralejo spin 1100 for landbased sharks etc around 2-3m

I hear albrights are ok, but I just use a GT, its pretty simple and you only redo it once every blue moon.

Alright thanks guys. If I'm running 50lb superbraid, will 50lb mono be right?

if using 50lb braid you can go a fair bit heavier in the mono. i tend to mainly use 80lb mono on the 50 lb braid and the mono still lets go more than the braid

Have you tried the Yucatan knot? Very simple, very strong and low profile.

Haven't tried the yuktan, will do at some point. I'm leaning towards just using a wind on for practical purposes. Will using a saragosa 18000 with a tiralejo spin 1100 for LBG sharks, kingies and possibly sambos etc

The Yucatan is also called the no-name, deckie or bristol knot so far as I can tell.

The GT knot has the advantage of having the tag run down the line, unlike the albright where it runs up, so can make for better casting (unless you trimmed your albright ultra-close, but that makes it unreliable...).

If tied correctly the shorter tag shouldn't be a problem at all in the albright.

Should even be slimmer than a GT knot as it doesn't have the head of the mono in it

IF being the key word there.

IF being the key word there. Theres a fine line between a properly tied albright and an incorrectly tied one and they both look almost identical. Having explosives strapped to yourself is also very safe IF the detontor is good and doesnt go off, lol.

At least with a GT knot, if it looks ok, it is ok. Unlike a albright where if you dont tie it properly, it could fail at any time.

Nice analogy there.

I guess it is down to personal preference but i do prefer the slimmer of the two, much better for casting. Bar my earliest attempts I've never had one slip or break without pushing it too hard.

GT Knot

Has anyone managed to find a website with a decent video/diagram on how to tie the GT knot?

Done a fair bit of hunting around looking for instruction and there isn't much around....

Agree with hlokk, the albright can be tempremental and i'd prefer to try something new, especially with the upcoming exmouth trip in November Cool

That is quite a different way to tie the GT, I learned to do double overhand or something similar, with the mono.

GT knot, 80lb leader. Or make up some wind ons of your own, makes for easy change overs with one less knot to tie when out fishing.
