Blackwood Blues

Spent the weekend fishing the mighty Blackwood River with a few guys from the tournament bream scene. Spent most of the day friday getting a handle on the place, but had it sussed in time for a Social Comp on saturday with a few of the lads. We ended up with a 4 fish bag of 4.48kg, with my big bream bang on 1.5kg and 45cm to the tip. There were plenty of fish caught, my comrade landing 37 fish over the day all over 30cm, most around mid 30's. A beautiful, if somewhat fickle river, but certainly an awesome fishery none the less! All fish released, all on lures.

Nice fish.Just a little

Nice fish.

Just a little question: there are two photos there that the guys are holding two fish.  I assume it was a double header?

The reason for the question is that if all caught and released why would you hold onto a fish (alive) so that you can then catch a second and have a photo of both of them, then release them.

Maybe I'm missing something with respect to the comp.  (not supposed to be a dig)

Tournament Fishing

Tue, 2011-11-29 21:15

Basically in all forms of tournament bream or bass fishing throughout australia and the world, including all the local WA rounds such as the WA Bream Classic, southern Series, ABT Kayak and Boating events bream are kept in a plumbed livewell, and weighed in at the end of the comp before being released. Thats how we measure the weight of our 4 fish bag. So we applied the same rules to our social comp.

The photos are taken as we release the fish. All fish released healthy and strong, and swam away no problem, all were released near where they were caught. That is how it is done.

Double headers ! im having enough trouble with 1 fish . Copped an absolute hiding yesterday on the Murray and down about $40 worth of lures but still got 4 nice fish. Nice fish there guys. Will have to get down that way for a play myself.
