Blackwood River (Balingyup)

Hi I'm going to head down to Balingyup soon and was wondering what fish you can catch in the Blackwood river there. I have been told maybe some redfin perch? but I'm not sure.

If anyone has fished there I would be very grateful for some advice on what fish can be caught and what type of lures/bait?

Thanks

theres fresh water cobbler in the river if you fish a running ball sinker on your main line, that runs down to a swivel and tie a 8kg leader (brown line works well) to the swivel, at the end of the leader use a no.8 or no. 10 long shank mustad bloodworm hook and fill the hook with the biggest live earth worms you can find you should catch somthing. cast your rig out in the middle and leave a belly of slack in your line, watch the slack line line it'll start bouncing and go tight gently strike just as the slack line tightens. the freshwater cobbler are pretty good eating and there spose to grow to 2kg 500mm, but iv never caught one over 500g. good luck from matt.

You cant really go wrong in the blackwood river.

cant remember the name of it but theres a road the follows the blackwood river all the way from ballingup to nannup and theres a lot of acces along the way if u keep an eye out for side roads there is some pretty good pools and rocky runs where you could hook some nice rainbow trout... i fished in nannup with a small celta spinner ( green/black pattern ) and my dad had the same. By the time we reached ballingup we had caught and released about 17 rainbow trout none of them huge but great fun...

we fished mainly in the moderately flowing parts and tried some big pools with no sucess but the big pools are where youll find the redfin and possibly catfish Smile

Hey wopjrb you had any luck on reddies or trout with the earth worms???

Was marroning in the collie river below wellington dam last night and saw some good size cobbler using spotlights. Got 6 size marron and about 6 size with eggs. The biggest cobbler i seen would have been 1.5 - 2kilo's.
