Starbug they are everywhere you look in the bay, got some them at egg island near dirk and near a spot just south of bent Pin. Whiting heads are the best bait
agree with shortylook, if anyone is going to shark bay head to the shark bay fish supply as they have massive boxes of whiting heads. get a fresh box if they have any, but frozen work just as good. blue lined emperor are very similar to pinkies in their fight and taste (the reason for the nickname "black snapper"). they also school up no matter what size they are, so if you find one theres more around. there were definately many more in the bay this year than when i was up there last in 09, looks good for the future
We have done really well on them on the Monkey Mia side. Catching fresh yellow tail on the way out does the trick every time, and they'll take crabs legs as well when we're targetting Baldies
on light gear up here in Dampier, and we all love them on the chew. IMO up there as a eating fish. Found a nice mark out here that we call "Snapper City" where you are almost certain of a feed of these scrappers (and other NW snaps). When we are there away go the broomstix and out with the Bream gear.

Sounds awesome.
Without giving away any state secrets, what areas did you fish?
I'll be heading up there this weekend. First time I've taken the boat so it will be a learning experience.
