Bluefin Wrangler 475 - engine upgrade

Hi - I currently own a Bluefin Wrangler 475 which is rated to an 80 hp. I purchased it new in 2009 with a 60 hp yammie. The boat really feels it when loaded up and travelling against a big tide or river flow. Now I am considering putting a 80 hp motor on the back . I am a bit hesitant as it is costly and I am unsure how much more available power I will have. For the money I could most likely buy a really good second hand boat that will suit my needs better if I sell my current set up.

Does anyone own a Bluefin 475 with an 80 hp 4 stroke? It would be great to know what speeds etc. people are getting, I would like to cruise at around 50 km at under 5000rpm.

Thanks

Are you running a stock prop?

Are you running a stock prop? If so a good quality stainless prop with a pitch change could make a big difference. A hydro foil could help too, they don't give you any more top speed but it will help lift the boat onto a plane easier. Just Propelers are the guys to talk to about it.

I am running a stock prop

I am running a stock prop with a pitch up from what was supplied. I installed a hydrofoil which made a big difference. But it still is a bit slow when loaded. We do some lengthy trips down river up here and the 60 seems to be on or near WOT mostly. I would rather back off to 4800-5000rpm and be cruising at 48-50km

Prop change will make a slight difference, hydrofoil would change the stability,  but think that to get 50kph at less th an 5000 rpm more horsepower would be required. My 5.1m quintrex running a 100hp yamaha tops out at 60kph @ 5300 if that helps.

If you have a stuff up and the insurance finds that you are over the makers recommended horsepower, forget about getting anything out of them, you are on your own.

carnavonite - the hull is rated to an 80 hp which is all I am willing to go to. am just questioning wether putting the max rated hp on this hull will make a difference. Just hoping someone has this configuration or at least knows someone who can comment.

Shark 1 - yeah I am thinking

Shark 1 - yeah I am thinking the same as I also want a really good trailer for some of the roads up here. I have a GS marine hull that has a 90 and a really well built trailer for about $10-12 k difference pending on what I would get. for me to upgrade to new motor and trailer is around $21k less what I get for the 60 and trailer. There is not much difference at the end result but selling a motor and trailer may prove more difficult and I would really like to upsize the hull if possible.

Good hull for rivers and flat water

not much of a bluewater boat if there is any chop....

depends on your intended use though
