Not good at all. Prob is these big chains that dont have much of an idea about fishing are making it hard for the smaller businesses to make it .

Wrong Russ

 Not quite right there Russ.

Bluewater as with all Tackleworld stores is not a chain store.

They are part of a buying group which is made up of individually owned family businesses. Same deal with Compleat Angler.

I think you will find all the employees are into some sort of fishing.

If you were talking about BCF only I would agree with you.

I always thought it was a strange business plan to close down a Bluewater store in Scarborough where there's no fishing stores nearby and open up one in Joondalup near the Mindarie store. Probably the reason Liza Harvey is pushing so hard for the 3 Oceans development across the road.....

Nonetheless, I got some ripper bargains on jigs and lures from the Scabs store and will head up for a look.

Im sure thats prob part of it Russ , but of course we dont know anymore reasons behind the closure , but all things being equal , a thriving money making

 business rarely shuts.

However as a long time shore fisher , I am also sure that less people are taking up the sport / pastime than they used too.

My believe centres around my own experiences , 15 or 20 years ago the south coast popular 4wd beachs and places like cornation or greenough  used to be packed

around school holiday time,  but in the last few years we have had days on end , at salmon time , during the april holidays where we have barely seen a sole.

And the greenough van  parks were booked out months in advance, whereas now I have booked a cabin a week before the oct holidays no problems.

And of course in the north suburbs 4wd and quad bikers etc are enemy no1 for the wanneroo council , long points gone , no more old man fisherman on quads

at preston etc, so we have the older crew locked out and discouraged, and more distractions and restrictions around access and complications

with licences and the ever changing rules  for younger people  means less taking to the outdoors period.

A few years back when my youngest was in primary school , they were asked who had gone real bush camping in tent , and including my daughter

there was 2 out of 30,,,,,,, wonder what the count would have been back in the 60 or 70,s ? ....

Yes theres more boats at ramps than before , but Im not convinced thats just not a rising population rather than thousands more entering boating.

Fishing and boating including skiing etc  was huge in the 70,s with afordable glass boats and rising wages , plenty of fish , all found without the latest

supercomputer  bolted to the dash, so I think we have already had peak fishing , if thats a thing.

Lastly of course , we have the internet denting the smaller guys , so I can see just how in the last few years we have had , carrington tackle , oceanside and

 now bluewater go belly up.

I buy all of my lures, tackle

Fri, 2018-09-07 16:17

I buy all of my lures, tackle etc from local tackle stores but with big ticket items I'll find the best price online and ask if the local guys can price match and if it's within $20 or so I'll buy it from them otherwise I'll get BCF to match it or order online.

Yep, and unless we can keep the dick head Krusty Demons wannabes out of Wilbinga, we'll lose that shortly. I take my kids there about 10 times a year and they are loving fishing.

Doing an early morning run up the coast to see a relative I stopped at the grant street reef for a quick look, About 0700 you could have your pick of places, it wasn't all that long ago that the reef would be as crowded as at that time of the morning especially on weekends.

Modded

 Hi All,

I have modded this thread, with the aim of assisting Bluewater close this store as a site sponsor.

Many of you say that small business is being smashed, well youve all seen the results recently with local closures. Ive always been a supporter of the people that put their balls on the line and go into bricks and mortar business, well as you can see even this site is feeling the hurt with only a handful of non-online only businesses advertising left.

Please allow Bluewater to promote this move on notice, without the negativity - take it out on the pingers or Hawthorn supporters. :)

Cheers

Adam
